I try to keep 34 psi in front and 40 psi in the back. I run 17" GTS wheels.

Thanks Shmurzik...

What size tyres are you on (255?), front and rear?

Is this for the 17" wheels? Why lower pressure in the front and higher in the back? Is that for more even wear?

Cool

I run 32 front and 36 rear in both cars. The S4 has stock sizes and the Euro S has 17" 255's in front and 275's rear. Seems to work ok on both. Tire pressure for the street is sort of trial and error. Too much and you wear out the center of the tread and not enough and the car wallows around like a pig.
You must find the balance, grasshopper!
Cheers

Ditto this. Both my rear tires are worn considerably more in the middle than on the sides. These are Mich. Pilots. I've been running about 44 in them....I may drop back to 38 or 40 if my LowTirePressure warning lights will let me. I think they come on around 38 or so.....don't remember...

Agreed! Everyones driving style and local road surfaces/conditions have an impact on what pressures work best for you. The condition of shocks, suspension heights, and alignment will all have an impact on feel and tire wear. Similarly, the matching of tire section width to rim width influences what pressures work best:
Ignore all that, and find the balance - as Joe says.
36 psi all round is a good starting point: keep an eye on wear, check psi at least monthly - and play with +2psi increments in the rear, maybe down to 34 psi in front ...

We have a local "expert" who insists the fronts should be pumped more than the rears.

The expert would not be me but for the track he is right, I end up with 38 front and 36 rear (on 17") as someone else mentioned depends on the wheel/tire and suspension you are running.

I ran 44 rear on my 91 with Pirelli 7000SS and they wore evenly.

I'm running 30F, 29R(cold) on 225/45-17 and 255/40-17 Yoko AVS ES100s. I used the Kibort "tip of the triangle" method of setting the tire pressure, and while it's too early to know how evenly they wear, it seems that I get better grip than I did at 36 PSI all around. YMMV.
