Jay . Make sure Your girlfriend knows she’s part of the project.
if she is not gonna support you it’s best to find another gal that will
Using this advice will save you both lots of heartache

Note if a woman doesn’t like what her man does
She will never support him so he can realize his greatest good
A man will quickly get tired of this and find a new companion
Sometimes the machine is still here and the woman is long gone

Got some more done, getting into the interior refresh,
start at the back and work to the front .
I like the lite color of these Sliverknit carpets the Sawgrass Coco Mats also will compliment this build.
Dash is coming out for a recover same for the A pillars

She's going to have a GREAT car when she gets it back!
Hope she becomes part of the community when all is said and done.

took the pod apart to swap in a new gear, note the missing teeth where the pinion gear is
this one broke when i reset it while driving around the block on initial test ride.
used some copper wire to shim the odo stack

The wire acts as a shim
it holds the stack close to its drive gear
this so it won’t bind from sliding apart
i used wire from a phone wire it’s solid copper

its the main cluster of odometer numbers ,
you will see this when you take one apart ,
the rack of numbers slides side to side if it moves enough then the drive gears will disengage.
The wire simply holds the rack close to its drive gear mating
in the picture you can see the shorter stack of the trip odo gears under the main odo rack

Also. Prepping to replace motor mounts with Volvo mounts from Roger on my 86 Manual... Thanks for the great write up with a pic showing PROPER engine height. It's my guide. Thanks for all you contribute here. Couldn't afford this car without you (and folks) sharing their invaluable experience!
Peace!

NOTE on the Volvo MMs they now come supplied with the safety separation strap,
this means its easier to install them as you can leave off the lower finger plate,
the strap will prevent the mount from coming apart, plus leaving the plate off will make installing them a lot easier.
For the ODO issue
I figured this out by doing the job twice on a fresh Odometer gear swap,
it worked perfectly during the test ride after refitting then about a week later the customer said the odo had stopped working.
By accident I went and backed the car up for about 200 feet then went forward and the odo started working again . I guess that the gears had gotten jammed
So I took it for a drive on some twisty roads the odo would work then stop then work then stop.
at that point i went and checked the wires in the trunk and on the transaxle all seemed to be in order,
so out came the pod.
I took the speedo out and started looking at it carefully thats when i noticed the slightly more then a bit of side to side play of the odometer number rack.
So i took it all apart and thats when the fun began ,
as i was trying to remove the center rod to put a thin washer on the end to set the numbers closer to the gear drive,
a few of the number wheels fell out of place this made the whole set of numbers begin to have mismatches.
I should have taped the wheels together before removing the center rod.
Anyway it was a fun 2 hours till i got this speedo back together.
Now i know better,
take a piece of copper wire ( I got this from some discarded phone wire like you would find in an old house where you the 4 colors running through it),
remove the insulation,
make a U ,
slide it around the rod, pull the ends ,
then one twist and bend around the bronze collar it should last a lifetime.

Dwayne's write up on the odo gear covers the slop in the 'number stack' and the need for shims.
I didn't think I had enough slop to matter, and I spun the odo for a good while to test it out (Dwayne covers the testing too).
So, of course, about 4k miles later it stopped working. Went into it again, shimmed it with a thin washer and it's worked fine for the last 18k or so miles.
