Um, shouldn’t this be connected or at least capped?

Default Um, shouldn’t this be connected or at least capped?

Got the 1984 with the 1988 running gear in the air to try to figure out what’s going on with the failed smog. It appears that I have a bad O2 sensor, but also noticed this.

This is just open to the air, and I can’t imagine that isn’t impacting how the car runs and potentially contributing to my overly lean condition.

Where should this be connected to and / or should I cap it?

Thanks!

Was connected to a valve with air from the air pump to the catalytic converter. I can't get to that side of the car to get pics, as it's against the wall tight for winter storage. Others will share pics. I'm thinking you won't pass visual, but that line isn't essential for the NOx portion of the cats to function. IIRC that supplies additional oxygen for the CO -> CO2 sections of the cats.

Thank you gentlemen, very much appreciate the responses.

I found and fixed the O2 sensor issue, fingers crossed that takes care of the SMOG test sniffer issue.

Whoo freaking hoooo.

The O2 sensor issue Took care of the problem and I swear the car feels like it’s got 100 more horsepower now. I have a smog certification in hand, this car will now be back on the road almost exactly 20 years after it was parked in a side yard in Tustin California.

So many of you here have been very gracious with your time and expertise, and I would like to give a shout out to Greg and team for their professional assistance.

Congrats Tom! Persistence pays off.

Was there any comment or excitement regrading the later engine in the '84 car?

Surprising how much better they run with a new O2 sensor....I've been surprised myself when I put a new one on my car.

I cut that pipe off and welded it shut at the cats. Gave the air pump away years ago.
