Default Need Help, Car Stranded

When doing my clutch job I also added a plug in for my o2 sensor to make it easier to drop the cats.

Since I go the car back together after I drive it for 10 minutes the check engine light would come on. I looked in the manual and it described this as an emissions problem light so I was going to check the 02 wiring. Long story short. I drove to the weekly run this morning and it ran great but now it won't start. It catches like it is starting but then dies. It smells like it is flooded. It catches goes to 500 RPM then dies. Any help would be great as my Shark is stranded at a Starbucks and am at a loss of what to do.
I don't "think" it's the fuel pump because of the gas smell, but....
TIA!!

Starbucks, tch, tch, tch... should have gone to Torefazione!

Is it possible you got the O2 wires crossed, or shorted? Have you tried unplugging the sensor from the computer?

Hi Jim,
It sounds like a O2 sensor problem. .......When the engine is cold, it will run open loop until the cats get up to temperature. Then it should run on the loop.

I would suggest that you leave the car until cold, it will probably start OK and get you home. If it was badly flooded, you may need to hold your foot to the floor to get it started.

Good luck !

Porken,

The wire could have shorted. As far as crossed wires, no, been driving it for 3 days and runs great.

John,

The car sat for about 3 hours before I went to restart it.

Thanks for the response guys. Of course I had to park it on a steep parking lot so I need to figure out how to get it raised. I better have some breakfast and think about it.

Try unpluging the sensor. See if that changes anything. You never know.

Isn't there a (3-wire) connector by the fuse panel you can reach to unplug?

You added a second connector under the car?

Thanks for the feedback everyone. No I didn't add an extra plug, just spliced a 3 prong connection above the cats. I am heading over right now. I am going to see if I can jack the car up enough to see if the wire fried on the cats and then try unplugging at the fuse panel.
My thoughts are the new plug connection was too close to the cats and fried, which will be a simple fix IF I can get under the car.
More later
