Should I restore my 87 928 or upgrade to the GT. Is this worth the13k I will have to spend along with the money i should get from Selling my car. I am thinking about getting this GT. My 87 is a great car, but it is an older 928 and the interior, although in good shape for the year, it is a little worn. I need to get new wheels and tires and it has 86,000 miles. It also would be nice to have a 5-speed. I am afraid of spending too much on my 87 and never being completely happy with it and wonder if I should just put the money towards a newer car like the GT. I have always wanted to enter shows with a 928 but since the Gt has a GTS bumper I think it would not qualify. So basically what it the smarter move. Is the GT 4 years newer worth the money in the long run.

I went through what you are. Had an '89 S4 auto and was at the point where I either had to put some $ into S4 or move up. I sold the S4 and eventually got lucky and found a good deal on a GT. I was out today in it and I have to say a 5 speed is a blast.
I wouldn't let the mileage run you away from the car you have though, it's just broke in. But if a 5 speed/ GT is what you want....
You probably know the GT you are looking at has been listed many times (maybe you can work the $ down) AND has been wrecked. That being said, it's a beautiful car.
Good Luck

The 1991 model - in my opinion - is the best value of 928 you can get. It has many refinements of the GTS models, the GT is almost as fast, but it does not cost as much. Just put some nice 17" wheels and GTS mirrors on, and you're all set. And don't worry about parking with the wider tires - the higher power assist makes it a lot easier than on the older models.
Go for it! Give it a good home...

The 13k above your car you can supercharge your car and **** all over a GT 8 ways to Sunday. Will not even cost half as much to do that. Plus you can make your car run all that much better. Buying someone elses PITA and then make more mods on top of that, man your talking about some bucks. If you got it to dish then sail on brother P man.

I love my '87. It is a 5-speed. Would I pay 13k for another 10 horses? No. I prefer the 2.2 rear end, the low-end torque and the simplicity of he car. Nothing against a GT, but honestly if you put a GT and my car side-by-side I'd take mine. Call me a fool, but I love everything about this car, and prefer the way it responds over the GT's higher revs and high-end horsepower.

If you want a 5sp, then you are not satisfied with what you have. If you have the cash, go for it...
Caveat: Don't forget to factor in what it took you to sort out your current 928.
