Winter Tire Recommendations

Sounds like you found tires that will work for you since you won't be driving in snow. Just to add to the conversation for anyone else that maybe looks at this thread in the future, I just put Firestone Winterforce 2 tires on my Mazda. The wheels are 16x7. They are a true winter tire and even can have studs added. That car is my "ski mobile" so I needed more aggressive winter tires. They look a bit like tires for a rally car, very meaty. It would be pretty awesome to put those tires on the 928 and the skis on the roof sort of like James Bond in the Lotus. Gives me a reason to buy stock size wheels. Maybe next year.

Know I'm late but you should look at the General G-MAX AS-05, they have pretty good reviews and Continental owns General. I have 3 sets of the DWS tires on 2 928s and my Cayenne, was looking to put them the 95 GTS but the rears in 275/35/18 we're back ordered went with the Generals at suggestion of tire guy and they drive really quiet and handle well. Have not had them in any snow but did well in the rain and saved me about $150 off the DWS.

I have different Blizzaks on my AWD minivan and SUV. The minivan has older WS50s and is probably the most surefooted vehicle I've ever driven in any weather. The newer SUV Blizzaks are much quieter and better for more vigorous driving, and are very sticky in bad weather of all kinds with the exception of deep snow. Every year these tires are driven in up to about 8" of snow and with a little more caution on glare ice.
I am so impressed with Blizzaks I will never buy anything else. (TireRack reviewers and customers agree BTW).
Like Dr. Bob I have Michelin AS3+ on the 928 and they are great also, but I don't think they would do well in the snow.

Shows the WS80 Blizzak which is last years model. I put a set of WS90's on my wife's car a few months ago.
A major aspect of winter tire performance is long term as the tread wears down. I've had Blizzaks worn past the wear bars that were still well planted in snow. Other brands significantly harden up as the outer tread wears out.
Reason why I'll only buy Blizzak and Nokian snow tires.

One more data point:
Conti DWS 06's worked just fine on my 2006 Cayenne for three seasons of the year (including some snow) and would be fine for your usage in the PNW year round in my opinion.
For extreme dedicated winter tire use? Nokian Hakkapeliitta's are the hands down best winter tire out there. Blizzak's are darn good, but Hakka's are great in the worst of winter conditions.
I would avoid driving any 928 in the snow if possible...

Take a look at the very positive TireRack review of the Vredestein Quatrac Pro. Although not a dedicated snow tire, they are winter rated. I think this could be an ideal tire for your Seattle weather conditions.
I recently had these tires mounted to my father’s VW Jetta and he is very well pleased with their performance. He just concluded a lengthy trip through upstate NY (cold and rain but no snow encountered). He reports excellent grip in the wet and and an exceptionally low noise level.
