Dude... everybody uses lift bars. I have three sets.

Now. Don't take this the wrong way: The fact that you couldn't find threads on lift bars instantly means you need to up your SearchFoo.

Check this thread:

https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...ng-google.html

If you use the described technique you will find pages of threads on Porken's liftbars.

Agree. Lift bars are great. Especially for those of us with small garages and no lift. Just make sure you get the correct style for the year of your 928

The lift bars are a must. When I got mine I went and used them right away with 6 ton jack stands extended to about two thirds, no problem but wanted to try something better. I went and bought the harbor fright 12 ton stands and this combo really works great. With them half way up there is so much room and for quick height adjustments the lift bars are so fast and stable!

I have 2 sets. Be absolutely certain to use the correct set for your car. One set works for 78 to 86, and the other set works for 86.5 to 95, plus Boxsters, 996's and 997's.

When I bought my 928 a set were included in the hatch, I knew they were designed to lift the car, little did I realize at the time what a difference they would make to working on the car (which I seem to be doing a lot lately!).

Thanks for the link. I did see them on the website, but did a quick search on here with not much luck. With that said I did not try the advanced feature, but will use the info next time you provided.

99.99% of anything you’ll ever need to know about 928s is available in some post in some thread on this forum. New folks can get frustrated because they can’t find even the simplest things because Rennlist’s built-in most-easy-to-access search functionality is ... shall we say: not intuitive? At best. Some might say it’s totally broken.

The advanced google query works for the ‘simple’ searches whereas Rennlist’s simple search from the drop-down menu does not.

Where are you located? I might be tempted to part with mine, since I now have a quick jack, and the liftbars are back up

I have a lift for working on the car, but found myself jonesing for a pair of liftbars last week as I was getting ready to place the car on tall stands for winter hibernation. Even for the couple of uses a year, liftbars are way easier and faster and safer than corner-at-a-time with floor jack and stands alone. I've done that literally hundreds of times on my own and other guest 928's so I have the technique down, but it's getting to be more and more of a challenge justifying getting around under the car on the ground since I got the lift. I need to look at the 12T stands mentioned above. Target storage height has wheels higher than a mouse can jump, or the wheels need to come off. I'm at the top of the 6T stands now, with a plywood-and-carpet pad under each stand, with an indexed hockey-puck pad on top.

Ken is 3.5 Honda driving hours from our little homestead in the middle of Oregon, well under 3 in the 928 once the snow and road deicer are gone. Hmmm.

Whatever you do, ensure you are using them on flat concrete floors. Someone in the 996/boxster forums used his on those plastic knobby floor tiles not realizing that his jack didn't want to roll the way a jack is supposed to. Car came off the lift bars and shoved them right in to the side of his car/rocker panel, then wanted to blame the maker of the lift bars. Don't be stupid and take extra care when doing anything with a jack and jackstands. Low profile jack and 4 6 ton stand work best.
