Default Front windshield wiper mechanism removal

Any tricks to removing this whole assembley... Looks to be 2 big nuts on the spindles... One nut on the motor shaft... And 3 that hold the frame work to the motor.

Any one BTDT with any tips.

How hard of a job is it to remove and replace the whole assembly.

If it’s the same as my S4, which is right hand drive, it’s pretty much as you describe if it all comes apart easily. Once you have the big nuts off the mechanism should push through and then you can slide it towards the centre of the car up to a point where you can pull it out. A bit tight in parts but it did come out. I did move the reservoir for the intensive screen wash out of the way to make space.

Now in my case I couldn’t split the motor from the mechanism but I still got it out in one piece. My main problem, however, was that one of the big nuts was seized to the spindle and a PO had been in there with an angle grinder in a half-hearted attempt to get it off so a spanner no longer fitted. I dremelled what was left of the nut off. The mechanism, at least for RHD, was surprisingly cheap so my old one is now in the bin and a nice shiny new one is on the car.

If I remember correctly it's fiddly to get the driver's side spindle out through the hole in the end of the cowl area, you have to rotate the transmission so it'll come out. As soon as you remove the nuts and rubber isolation washers, reassemble them in order on the spindles so they don't get mixed up or out of order.

^^^^ thanks guys. My wipers dont get used very much here...getting a bit slow/stiff.

Plus <ducking for cover>
im getting an extra windshield sil trim piece and having the holes welded ,filled and painted . Going wiper less in the front just because I can. I will still have the original trim to swap back if i want , but i can count on 1 finger the times i have actually used my wipers in the last Mmmmm 3..4...+ years?
just a little customization project that can be reversed at any time.

headlight and windshield washers are going also.

Not terribly hard. As Rob noted, somewhat 'fiddly'.

The "slow" issue is often old and stiff grease in the 'transmission' part, or a bad bearing at the bottom of the motor.

PorKen did a nice write up on it (more on the motor overhaul than the removal, but still worth a read):
