There are things that matter, and things that don't.

Certain times details are all that matter, and certain times, well, they don't matter.

When you change a timeing belt, ALL the details must be exactly right. However, when you put gasoline in the cars tank, a half gallon more or less won't matter.

Btw, if you can't tell, that last post was expecaly bad on purpose.

i think the difference is that we pronounce volkswagen, bmw, etc, like we do because that's how it's pronounced in those co.'s american advertising. they're just made up names.

porsche is a family name and deserves to be pronounced correctly, no matter where you are...

Names chance when they cross lauange borders, and that is a fact of life.

I know there is no way I can properly pronounce Spanish names. I get as close as I can, and it's good enough. I don't ask Spanish folks to precicely pronounce my name. They get close enough, and it's good enough.

David,

Good point. If anyone remembers when Porsche did advertise on tv (The "Imagine you were a car . . . " campaign, for example) they pronounced the company name a certain way. Some deference should be given to that. But this is America - pronounce it how you want.

Nothing matters, there is no wrong or right, everything is OK, just relax and you'll be fine, no need to concentrate, things will take care of themselves, don't fret the little things, nothing is that important, there'll be other battles, we can't all be stars, life's a bitch and then you die, you never can tell, no-one knows, it could be, i've heard it said, rumour has it, to each his own, different strokes for different folks, live and let live, life's too short, and so-on ;-)

"Baby ... sometimes I feel like dying ... driving while I'm closing my eyes .... Sometimes they're too hard to handle - those voices inside my head." [Roxette] ... try that at 160mph.

At my house the old very brown 1980 Porsche .......... is simply called the " Turd " no problem with pronunciation having multiple Porsches in the family you need to differentiate . Red car blue car blue car brown car yellow car black car works until more of the same color arrive or with the red car (race car project) it is now mostly primer gray , gel coat and carbon fiber .

I agree, my family knows my cars as Gretch and Gretta......in fact some of my family members would be surprised to find out that Gretch and Gretta are Porsche cars.
Attempts at intellectual honesty are noble, but can give the impression of one behaving like an intellectual bully, especially if the attempt is only a sometimes thing. For example, when one abuses one's friends with poor spelling and grammar and then pontificates on pronunciation.......one is perhaps guilty of being disingenuous......

So much for the snobbery. We are extraordinarily fortunate to be playing with some very well designed machinery.......That alone puts a smile on my face.

I just correct them and say it is a 2 syllable word, NOT 1, and if they cant get it, then I say, and that is why you will always drive a ford, or cheby

Realist D: If you watch the Victory By Design video you will hear DeCadenet pronounce the name as both "Porsh" and as "Por sha." Of course the Brits are notorious for mispronouncing "foreign" names: witness Waan Pablo Montoya.

I only pulled out the DeCadenet reference because I know he was a Porsche factory driver, not because he is the arbiter of proper pronunciation (although he does have an excellent "boys school" accent).

The real point here is that Porsche pronounced properly is actually more like a 1.5 syllable word and saying "Porshaa" is just as dumb as saying "Porsh". And as Gretch points out, using the pronunciation of this word as a form of snobbery is not very admirable. Witness Lizard931's comment above. And to him I point out the fact that I have a friend who can't even SPELL Porsche but he owns 3 of them (including a GT3), along with a smattering of other interesting vehicles like Ferrari, Ducati, AMG Benz, Lambo Murcielago, Honda RS250, Cigarette, and a host of more pedestrian transportation devices. I don't think Lizard's mid-80's 928 would make this guy jealous.

By the way, my friend can't pronounce Murcielago right either - it's Murtheealago. Like he cares!
