Default Replace door safety light bulb

Folks - I am in the middle of converting as many bulbs on my '82 928 as I can. I want to replace the bulbs in the door safety iight, but nowhere can I find any info on how to replace the bulbs in those things.

How do you do that?

Thanks -

Mark

I am pretty sure that you have to take the door cards off to get to that bulb. I am using this reference http://jenniskens.livedsl.nl/Technic...el_removal.pdf to remove mine for a mirror issue but will sure do some r&r while I'm in there including that bulb which may end up being LED when I'm done.

you have to replace the whole thing. Well mine were out- and my car is clean, no rust. But these where rusted shut. Replace em.

Well if that's true it might be a good thing anyway as I want to look at the power window parts and tune them up. Thanks for the link.

The square red lights can be removed with a thin blade screwdriver from the outside.

Assume all the parts will need replacement.

After you pry the bulb holders out of the door then you will see that the rubber boot was at one time filled with water.

Once you buy replacement bulb holder units,
they come with a new lens housing and bulb holder.

I like to put deoxit 100 on the female connectors, and the bulb socket.
I put silicone RTV on the wire harness where it comes out of the rubber boo,
this will keep water from getting into the connectors .

Also note that light housing has two square holes near the lens place these facing down so any water runs out

If you are interested in upgraded power window parts, we can definitely help you. Our company machines metal replacement parts for the cheap plastic that comes on these regulators. It's kind of our niche! Check it out:

Well - the passenger side was not corroded in any way so I was able to change out the bulb and put it back in. Sure wish Porsche had used a little longer wire as it was pretty tight quarters. On the driver's side, sure enough, corroded such that the old bulb would not twist out, and I popped the fuse while I was at it so the PS light does not come on now, too.

I learn something every time I work on this thing.

What's the best way to remove and replace the bulb from the red door light housing in the drivers door? There doesn't seem to be any more slack in the wiring and I have the usual corrosion inside. Just want to check before I break something. I have a replacement bulb ready to go.

All of my other interior and hatch lights including the passenger door red light work correctly and turn on and off as they should. The drivers door red light has not worked since I bought the car and I am experiencing battery drain. Hoping this will help with troubleshooting if I get this red light working again.

Thanks for the help in advance.

I take the bulb out of these and leave it out.
All the other interior lights can be manually turned off, but these are on constantly if the hatch or door is left open.

I think that the bulb socket just pulls out of the lens and slips back in on install, but more than likely it is very corroded as mine were. I wired in LED's.

I got my answer when I tugged a little more - the terminals were so corroded they were already snapped off. New light housing with terminals on order. Original wiring seems to be ok with a cleanup.
