Jag/Eaton M112 Supercharger install on 86.5 has been driven.......PICTURES POSTED
Hello Everyone,
I just thought I would report that Mike and I have nearly completed a prototype install on his 86.5.
We started on a Saturday afternoon at around 5:00pm. We started work again on Sunday at around 1:00pm. I think we worked on it Monday night skipped Tuesday night and started it on Wednesday night. We were driving it on Thursday night without the new fan installed. Durring the time frame above we also took some parts off my car, fabed some small parts, installed an electric fan and removed the t-belt covers to check the t-belt, and did a good bit of cleaning and some painting.
I think if I had all the parts ready to go I could do a job in a few hours.
Unfortunately Mike has a failed pilot bearing to replace this week. Looking at some reciepts we found that his car actually has over 200kmi. So we didn't pound on the car too much yet.
This is basicaly the same system I had on my car in the begining, 5psi no intercooler. We were going to stick w/ the stock injectors but they looked really bad and I had an extra set of 30#. These provide more fuel than necessary for this setup and the RRFPR is hardly necessary w/ them.
I am pleased w/ the way it looks and leaves much more space in the engine bay than stock. Maybe we'll get a pic up but it basicaly looks exactly like the pic in my avatar.

Just back from a day on the slopes of the Canadian Rockies.... Sunshine Area, to be precise. A foot of new sure helps clear one's head!!
As for the '86.5 install, will the Whipple be the same basic installation? Will the intercooler setup complicate the install significantly in this model year?

Thanks Warren.
Brian,
Must be nice to get to sneak off for a powder day like that. Sounds like a much beter day than I had. I decided a few minutes ago to start planning a trip to NZ this summer that will involve some helisking.
There is very little difference between the Jag/eaton and Whipple installs. There are only slight differences between the 85-86 and the S4 installs, fans, throttle linkage, heat exchanger placement and a slightly modified IC pleum to compensate for the differences in the Vs. The 85-86 has some mounts for the TB in the V that the S4 dosen't.
All in all the 85-86 is an easier install that the S-4. After you get rid of the intake there is less stuff under the hood of the 85-86.

Ok, here's the long-awaited pictures. The setup is pretty simple and clears up alot of engine-bay area as you can see. We're still finalizing the intake and whatnot...
enjoy
P.S. - Thanks to everyone who helped me w/ my clutch issue - especially Jim of 928intl. I got it all put back together and it performs MUCH better than before.

Barry,
Sell a few of those cars and you could come with me.
What you see above is still in prototype form. I know, it looks like crap. It is mainly the parts I started out with on my first setup. I have the final inlets completely designed and nearly finished. The manifold is in it's finished form. It is ball burnished or shot peened, can't remember.
Mike got his clutch back in tonight and we got to drive it again. The car is much quicker than before. Time for a little tuning.

a couple questions,
#1 when are you going to reinstall the strut brace, and will it fit,
#2 wtf has the oil fit been moved 2, or is it one of the "who needs to put oil in situations
#3 when do you plan on IC it?

Sweanders,
Steve_C (thanks Steve) has posted a link to a picture that BCDavis has on his website of the prototype Whipple setup from last year on my S4. I think there are a few pics on Tony's site too. AKA Home Depot Motorsports version. Embarrsingly the same setup is in the Feb issue of Grassroots Motorsports magazine. I hope there are Home Depots in Sweden . The ugly white pipes you see will be replaced w/ a shot peened or powdercoated professionally made inlet.
Lizard,
1) When we get the inlet situation straightened out, yes.
2) It is the added black tube in front on the passengers side of engine.
3) I think Mike is wanting to experment w/ water/alcohol injection controlled by the piggyback computer he will be installing. So, it may be a while.

BTW:
Total cost on this install for Mike is less than $2300.... or would if we weren't doing some tradeout work for my parts.
My parts $1705
e-bay used Jag/Eaton M112 $200
30# injectors $225 Stock 24# probably ok but had xtra 30#
Used fan $20
Boost gauge $25
FP gauge $20
Misc $75
RRFPR not needed with larger injectors.
Would need larger injectors OR RRFPR at this level
Total $2270
He should add bypass valve $80
Can add intercooling for ~$550
Raise boost w/ modular pulley$150
