Not to mention it's now getting a built 5.0 smog legal "euro" hybrid to replace the venerable 4.5. I hope the 3 speed can handle it

I had similar damage to the cylinder that turned out to be casting material in the 5.0. I filled it with white metal and sanded it flush as it didn't affect the fire ring.

These projects just lose control at some point. It is however worth it when it is finished in smiles per mile!
This project sounds awesome, and the paint color sounds beautiful. Cant wait to see it!

Wow amazing! I swear we need to meet! I have the exact model car and spent the last two years bringing back from the dead. I was a little luckier on the interior so I didn't have to do a complete refresh there but then again it's not perfect either. Funny thing was I going to make a video to share the before after too...great minds!

Tell us more about your painting process...I'm curious.

I'm sure you have atleast 600-700 hours in that build, if not more...

Thanks Checkmate! God only knows how many hours I put into it. Not much to tell about the painting process; i disassembled the car and made a dolly out of 4x4s, had it flat-bedded to and from the paint shop. The guys sanded down the POs poor paint job and resprayed it. Overall they did an ok job, next time I'll send it out to KilnRed in KY for the royal treatment, if he'll be willing. In the meantime it's just a modern Valspar base and clear coat. It was intended to be a durable driver quality. It sure is pretty though, Blue is the best color. Let's see that video!

Some of the Valspar products are really nice and durable actually. FWIW I think your car is gorgeous!

The Big 6 (PPG, Akzo Nobel, Axalta, Sherwin-Williams, BASF, Valspar) all make some good products.

Thanks Austin! Good to know about the paints. I did ask them about using glassurit but they weren't familiar with using it. So I figured to go with what they were familiar with.

Very wise. Also, you almost certainly had better results by handling disassembly/reassembly yourself. It's a great deal of work, but it is a huge variable in how good the job will be. It's great peace of mind to know that it was done properly! You definitely executed the max value refinish plan that I commonly suggest.

I have only used Debeer (Valspar) high solids CC's and undercoats. I was satisfied with the undercoats. I was quite impressed with their clears. The particular clear coat product I used was a high solids polyurethane and it was gorgeous. Excellent gloss retention with all available catalyst types. That said, it definitely has its own application characteristics. Any of the 923 series Glasurit clears that are offered in 5 liter containers will spray very differently. It's always best to stay within the painter's familiarity.

LadyBug,
It was great meeting you at 928 Intl a few months back. I had no idea you were going in that deep. Really impressive attention to detail and very tasteful mods. I am really curious to see what the RWHP is on pump gas.

Congratulations and hope your final shakedown list is a short one!

Thanks Mr Wasser! It was a fun project. Just a short list of ticky tac things to do but at the top of the list is to drive and enjoy it. Looking forward to the updates on your '78 project.

After seeing the "Blunicorn" this past weekend AT S-Fest I'm hooked. This 85 euro was absolutly worthy of the 2019 Sharktoberfest's "Peoples Choice Award" this past weekend and you had some stiff competition....Alex/000's beautiful OB for one. Josh you put the right team together getting this 85 euro back to all of it's former glory and then some...Blunicron is "Off the Chain" Finally got around to viewing your outstanding still/video production and look forward to seeing Blunicorn and it's proud owner again and again T
