I just assembled a new webserver, I'd like some testers to see if it's actually any faster.

OLD WEB SERVER CLICK HERE

NEW WEB SERVER CLICK HERE

Feel free to look at whatever. The Formula 1 link is one of the largest to really see how the speed is.

Thanks in advance!

heya, I checked out your server and it seems to be running good! Looks pretty secure too. What webserver are you running?

'Bout the same. Linux/Apache would probably do better on the same hardware.

Linux isn't an option on this computer. It has to act as a regular workstation in emergencies.

I couldn't tell any difference after comparing a few links on either. Maybe you should stroke your webserver engine :-)

I guess it depends on what you mean by "regular workstation" Linux does that too. I really can't think of much that Windows can do(that's of any value) that Linux can't.

Apache on Windows will be slightly more efficient.... but you're stuck with the inadequacies of the hardware and especially of the OS.

I use linux on my desktop @ work. So far, I haven't found anything that I really need a windows box for. The only close call comes when I need to check exchange mail via outlook. I combat that by installing office 2000 via codeweavers crossover office. Works awesome!

I'm also capable of running my linux box for weeks or months at a time without a reboot. Not something i'd try doing on a windows box...

I like linux, but trust me, it's not an option. Without going into specific detail, I support a small company who's software will not work on linux. It's a home grown piece they use. Support for it sucks (well, until I came in :-). I thought about a duel boot, but when I would be working on their stuff, the server would be down. Not being a programmer, I cannot go into detail on the program language used for this software. But I think it was built using a very old version of Fox Pro, sometime in the mid to early 90's.

Even if it did work on Linux, they are not running it. So it would do little good for me to troubleshoot something while running a different OS.

For a really secure and stable web-server platform, try out MAC OS X with Unix. Only one problem, I'd have to buy a MAC (sorry mac lovers).

Hacker (Erik),
Looks great but I cannot discern much difference in speed here. I'm on a fast connection (at the univ)...but appears about the same to me. Nice GP photos!!! I can see why you copyrighted them

I can't see any real difference between them. I'd give the new server the nod if forced to choose...
