I'm still not positive from looking at them what kind of shape the syncro is in there. Does it look like it's in good shape.

And with that, what's the best way to get bearings and seals ordered from you? I'm definitely going to need those two needle bearings, an input shaft seal, input bearing cap o ring, layshaft oring, top cover gasket, and diff cover gasket. If I continue taking the main gearset out I'll need some more seals for the diff and probably some roll pins too I think.
Just call Mary at 714 879 9072 or send her an email at MaryBBRD@att.net.

Mary and I are off all next week...so you might want to get pieces going, before that...Kyle will be too occupied to send stuff out.

Synchro looked good. I'll get you a synchro reference guide, so you can tell.

I can 100% guarantee I'm not going to use my pinion nut tool in the next 3 weeks....I've not got one of these transmission in my work.plans until.after that....just a couple of early transmissions and a Tiptronic for Singer.

I could send you the tools, you could use them, and send them back, if that would help you. (I modified the factory tools, so they were easier to use....all you will need is a relatively sturdy vice.)

I'll try and reach out to her tomorrow.

I've seen some of those singer cars both on top gear and on jay leno's garage. That's pretty f'in cool that you work on those.

That is an absolutely tremendous and generous offer to loan your tools out. I'd love to take you up on that offer, but unfortunately I'm also going to be out of the state visiting family starting this weekend through next weekend, so I don't know if that would leave enough time to use and get it back to you before you'd need it. Not to mention I wouldn't want you to send something like that when I wouldn't be around to make sure it arrived safe and wasn't sitting outside. I'd be absolutely worried stiff about something happening to it. Maybe the week after next when both of us are back in our respective abodes we can think about that again, but I by no means want to put at risk or delay you getting your work done on customer's vehicles. Again, for what it's worth from some redneck on the internet that you don't know, I think that is a tremendous offer to make and says a lot of good about you.

Good plan. We will arrange this, the week after next. I do have a couple of this style transmissions to do, but I have two engines to build and those two early transmissions to do, before I need to even think about those.

I only do Tiptronics for Singer....there's not many people who can do them. All of the tools I have, for these had to be hand built...Porsche had nothing to do jobs like install seals straight and at the proper depth. And a tool to get the pinion nut off of one of those things? Make it.

Talked to Greg and Mary today and the needle bearings and seals/gaskets are on the way (thanks again). I think this go round this is as far as I'm gonna be able to go into the trans. The trans in my Charger (Mercedes w5a580) started acting up on me this past weekend halfway between SC and PA, so I need to get the 928 together and put of the garage so I can get the Charger in and get the trans out of it. My Durango drove halfway up the east coast with no problem (picking up a spare trans for the Charger along the way), but being down to 1 vehicle has me paranoid. Figures it's my newest vehicle that gives me trouble like that with all the times I've made that trip over the past 10 years.

Parts from Greg came today. Put the needle bearings in after cleaning up the input shaft with some polishing paper. They definitely aren't a cause of any noise anymore. There is still some noise that seems to be coming from the ball bearing for the input shaft. It turns perfectly smoothly though. For now the trans is getting put back together to go into the car. Need to get the 928 out of the garage so I can get my Charger in to swap its trans.

I started working on getting the trans back in the car around 6 last night and had the car back on the ground at midnight 30. It's driving just as well as it was before, but unfortunately most of that noise is still there, maybe a little less than before, so I guess most of the noise was coming from the big input shaft bearing. Those needle bearings definitely need replaced though. It's still nothing that you can hear when driving though.

I guess for now I'll keep an ear out for any changes in the noise. The bearing turns perfectly smoothly in hand and there is no slop in the input shaft.

I did swap out the whole torque tube bearing assemblies for a set from 928intl (other unexpected expenses made that decision for me vs the superbearings), so those are ruled out from any noise contributions. I was going to try making new sleeves for the old ones, but I gacked the one carrier pulling them all out. I can also confirm that these are much tighter on the driveshaft than the garage9 bearings and sleeves, can't slide the shaft by hand anymore.

I wish circumstances would have allowed for me to order one of those input bearings and replace it as well, but that just wasn't in the cards for now. So the car is out and about unless the noise changes for the worse. Maybe once it's winter I'll think about replacing that input shaft bearing, but for now I think I'm going to just enjoy driving the car while the weather is still nice out. At least for now I'm not leaving any more gear oil slicks wherever I park with a new input seal installed.

Now that the 928 is out the Charger is in. It's a much tighter fit in the garage than the 928 for sure.

Also wanted to add that originally I was running stp conventional limited slip 75w90 and am now running mobil delvac1 non limited slip 75w90, and with both the trans shifts perfectly smoothly, no crunches at all.

So the car has been driving fine since the swap, but the torque tube noise (which if it has increased, hasn't done so by much) is finally annoying me. So I need to get a new input shaft bearing.

In the meantime I've also procured a good used automatic LSD. I do believe I'm correct in saying I should be able to use the carrier from that with my existing gearset. I'm expecting to have to adjust shims to get everything adjusted properly. Anything else I need to get to swap in the LSD carrier so I can get a parts list over to @GregBBRD ?
