No turn signals....ideas?
My turn signals are currently inoperable. Car is a 1980 928.
In either left or right position the turn signals will not light up, but the indicator light on the dash will stay lit (doesn't blink). I've pulled the bulbs, they look ok. No signal on a volt meter when I tested the socket. So, where do I look next? I checked the wiring diagrams, it appears the current goes from the hazard/turn signal flasher, through the left/right steering column switch, to the dash light and to the fuse at the panel (replaced the fuse), then to the turn signal. So, I have current through the switch (steering column stalk) to the dash light, but that's it (correct?). Would my problem be in the column unit, or elsewhere? (Hazard/turn signal flasher for example. Where is it by the way?) What should I check next?
Thanks in advance
Rich.

If you haven't checked your fuses yet, do so. They are on separate fuses. The early 928's have a lot of electrolysis going on and the fuses and connections can be corroded. I just did the yearly removal and cleaning of the fuse panel. I cleaned all contacts and replaced all the fuses. I cleaned my grounding points (all). Result is, no electrical gremlins and my volt meter is now again reading correctly. It had started the electrical gremlins again, signal lights, headlights, tail lights inop or intermittent. It had been a Year since I had done this. Do a search, Wally has a great post on the subject of yearly electrical maintenance for the 928.

On the 82's the flasher unit is 'V'.
On my fuse/relay board it is on the bottom row of relays.
It is the 2nd from the left, right next to the double relay for the rear window heater/defroster.
To make sure its the right one check the Devek site for year specific fuse/relay boards.
You really need to clean up the fuses and wiggle the relays as Anthony suggested, don't forget to chase down and clean all grounds -chassis too-.
Coil, engine compartment jump point, the under dash multiple point common ground-above the fuse panel ( you may have to drop the Lamp Control Unit to do it properly).
Enjoy!.

after checking the fuses, i believe the turn signals are also controlled by the light control module. i had a bad port on mine, made the one taillight unlit and also the side marker. but then i haven't looked to make sure the turns go through the control unit. solution for me was a new unit.

The problem turned out to be the Hazard Flasher relay, (thanks John S.). For some reason, my brain failed to associate "Hazard Flasher" with turn signal when I read the manuals (duh), so when John posted his thoughts my first step was to remove and replace that relay. Problem solved! Thank guys!

Richard,
Quick fixes are the best!
Wally is adamant on cleaning and wiggling BUT He's first in line to start cheap when all else fails. The golden rule for all shark maintenance.
Heinrich,
Yep! Black wires, the brake circuit -unlike some others- are dedicated to brakes only.
I would love to bypass the LCU

Anthony,
Will check and get back to you.... busy eyeballing prospective orphan sHARKs.
Heinrich,
Oops!
Turn signals, not brakes...sorry, Black from the LCU is the correct color though.- info/scematics supplied years ago from Steve Catteneo, Transmission Guru and demi-god.
