With respect to the support, I think that it's a good idea and would be easy to make. Especially if you weld, or have a local shop make it for you. But, it doesn't allow for moving the motor while supported, so I would personally prefer to store the motor long term on a pallet with cribbing. Easy enough to add cheap casters to a pallet to make it easy to move if you don't have a forklift or pallet jack.

Here's something a little better and much sturdier:

Vehicle dollies...

Set the engine in there with a couple pieces of wood, and it's super easy to move around, and has a small footprint.

A bunch of the 928 guys have met my son, JP, at SITM and Rendezvous,and they can probably attest that he might be a bigger car guy than I am.

I hope he'll be able to enjoy his passion without gas engines becoming outlawed and everything going electric, as that's just not as much fun.
