You'd have to modify it to make it symmetrical like that, but look at the air filter from the 2003+ Chevrolet Express van with V8 (any size).

About a 5.25" x 13" cylinder with an 85mm opening in the foam-rubber base that will stretch tight over a 3.5" pipe.

It has more than enough flow area and they are cheap and always going to be in stock at your auto store if you need it.

I'm building an airbox for one right now, for my SC-944.

I checked with Kuhn and he is not making them anymore.

I'm working on my intake and air flow options.
One could adapt John's new larger filter system to feed your airbox:

You'd probably want a horizontal tube out of the filter, instead of the vertical tube.
