The interior of the '83 is TRASHED!!! It has a tan and brown interior (or used to). The PO left it in the sun way too much and each leather piece is a different color - it's terrible (smells too). But, EVERYTHING is leather on that car. Just about everything except the front seats and the dash in perfect condition, just really, really ugly.

So, we're going to make a black interior. I figured we can just dye the leather. Does anyone have any advice or product recommendations?

Recoloring is one option, the other is to find a complete (or nearly complete) interior from another car. If the panels are all warped and different colors it will take a lot of work to get them all the same color and it good condition.

In the long run it will be interior parts which will be hard to come by in 928's, but there are still some good deals to be had out there.

Adding tint to the windows and using a sundshield when parked all help extend the life of the interior.

It's amazing - nothing is warped, cracked, torn, etc. And I agree it could be hard to match color, but I can't imagine black it that hard.

don't do it. just do as chris says and replace with a transplant interior. it is a lot of work, and you cannot do it with the interior installed anyway. further, colouring dead leather will not help you, it may actually break the leather as i found out - because colouring requires vigorous massaging of the pieces. some i tried just fell apart like desert mud. if you still want to, i've used leatherique, and JE has used the other major competitor, with excellent results. YOU MUST TAKE THE OLD COLOUR LAYER OFF FIRST ... sorry for shouting but it's for your own good. Ps if you have a luggage cover in leather i am a potential buyer.

I'm struggling with the same issues. My dash is trashed from the sun. I have the same interior color too. Tan/Dark Brown. I jumped in the dash/glove box recover that rob set up.

So I will be able to recover that and bring it back. Then, I plan to order the specific color dye tan/dark brown from the same company to freshen everything up. Lot of work, but it will be worth it. Check out what this guy did. Great tips too.

I was talking to my mechanic a few days ago about buying a set of 2 speaker door panels and dyng them brown to match my interior.

Jim - Unless you can find me some two speaker door panels in dark brown?

I have the pics on my computer's hard drive and for the life of me can't figure out how to post them (yes, I've read previous threads on how to post and it's not working. See, I'm retarded)

And another reason I want to dye is cost. I have plenty of time, I can spend a year on this if need be, but I don't have an unlimited amount of money and with the amount of work this car needs, I don't want to spend more than I have to. My '87 is the garage queen beauty. I'm not trying ot make this car perfect, I just want it to be acceptable

along the top there is an "upload photo" button click on here, enter in your rennlist membership # and the other thing it asks for and then click login to upload photo,
Now I havent uploaded a photo to the rennlist server myself although what normaly you would see is a box with a browse button you would click on you would then use this window to navigate to the SPECIFIC file you want to be able to up load click on it to highlight it and then click open and below it there will be an upload button, once you click on that it would be uploaded onto the server,
if those instructions are incorrect or the server is different what you can do is log in first then in the upper right corner of your keyboard there is a Print Screen (prnt scrn) button click on this then go to start programs accessories then click on paint, within paint hold the CTRL button then tap "V" 1x only and a picture of your screen will appear you can then save that and e-mail me cjensan@roadfly.org and I should be able to figure it out, or send it to one of the rennlist moderators I am sure they would help you out.

Post a reply, not a quick reply. On the post reply page, scroll down to the browse icon (attach image) - select the location of the image and then upload. for Multiple pics you need to upload the pics,copy the URL, then paste the image using the img icon (center of page). Remember to cancel the duplicate http:/ in the image field.

Good luck with your interior.

BTW - I guess I wont get that chance for dinner Huh? :-(

That smell is likely coming from the carpet, the best place for Mr. Mildew to hang out. He doesn't need alot of friends to stink up the car.

I think George has a writeup on his website www.phat928.com about how he changed the interior color of his car. But I don't think this was an all leather interior, so I'm not sure if that's of much help...
