These are S4/GT intake tubes:

I don't think you can get "new" factory originals any longer. There was a aftermarket intake tube available but it is not an exact copy of the factory original. Good luck.

DR found the ones on my GTS. I'd start there. I am always on the prowl for the insulated tubes. Last year I snagged one of Ebay for $100. After all, it's not if the insulated tubes will self destruct, it's when.

Thanks,

I will be ordering all sorts of goodies in the next few months. The insulation is cracking on the intake tubes and I was thinking of buying a set and saving them for shows and such. I guess I will see whats available.

How true. Careless people ripping them out from under (as opposed to carefully removing them as to not tear the coating) the strut bar brace to work on something in the area doesn't help their longevity either.

I think I got one of the last set of "new" intake tubes from DR for the midnight blue GTS a couple years ago.

There has got to be a way to re-apply the rubberized coating on the tubes to make them look factory fresh? Wonder if the rubberized spray Home Depot sells to coat the handles of tools would work?

I don't think so. That stuff is pretty thick and not as flexabale. It does a great job for tools but I doubt it would work on this. Guess its time for a google search and see if there are companies that recoat this type of stuff.

Does the insulated intakes keep the air temp down that much? The primary intake scoops are still above the hot radiator. I would think positioning the intake scoops further forward or down into the air stream would have done more. Or was this done just to keep the plastic from becomeing brittle from the engine heat?

I checked last week for new tubes for my 88...the old style tubes were $38 each and the GTS tubes were $157 at Devek! Ouch....but thats why GTS's are worth so much I guess?

If memory serves, I think this is how Porsche got some of the increased power? Could be wrong though..........

Wow! Were they OE or OEM tubes? There is a difference in the two pieces.

The GTS insulated tubes were for NOISE reduction " all GTS vehicles are fitted with noise reducing intake hoses of the same type used previously on export models for Switzerland." quoted from service technik 1992. The tubes are available but do cost about $150 and unfortunately Porsche puts paper part number stickers ON THE FOAM parts and trying to remove them tears the foam !! Switzerland apparently has more restrictive regulations about noise emitted by autos I had heard that was one reason Porsche opted to watercool the 911s to meet drive by noise requirements in some European countries.

I bet you they place it on the top also so it is clearly visible and annoying. Sounds about right for Porsche.

I am assuming you are talking about $150 ea. Is this something that you stock or does it need to be ordered and will take the standard 6-8 months for Porsche to ship and pricing dependent on euro conversion of the time?
