Default Source for 1979 green ignition wire

Amazon lists it for $130. Id rather not support them.

Any other sources?

Cheers

Newbie question, why is a simple wire $130?

For starters it's not a simple wire. It's a shielded cable that is the lifeblood of the ignition system for every 928 made from 1978 - 1984 (not counting the 84 EuroS).

The end which goes into the distributor is specific to the application. Years of research by many people in the community have never been able to duplicate this connector for producing a less expensive alternative.

So yes in a round about way, same response as above, they've got us by the proverbial cojones. But at the same time doing small batches requiring a proprietary end with non-standard wire (it must be properly shielded or your car will have issues) isn't the same as simply making a two wire generic signal cable with off the shelf connectors.

Bottom line, if you own a car with a green wire, and you have no idea when it was last changed, plan on swapping it out sooner than later and before problems start. If not for any other reason, before the price goes up....again.

Just be thankful we don't need the 911 version. $90 and it's 1/4 the length:

However, there are aftermarket alternatives to the 911 version that are cheaper:

If I had one of these 911's, this is the last place I'd try to save $40 and would only buy the OEM version. Just not worth the risk of dealing with a green cable that is not 100% perfect. All sorts of random intermittent issues can be presented.

Actually it is not a simple wire at all. Also the distributor end fitting is not available anywhere.
Only one manufacture - Bosch - and they have stopped selling to the wholesale market and our only supply line is Porsche.
Supply and demand for a $10 wire that we can't replicate as a complete assembly.
We have tried.
Look on the bright side - it is available.

because it is most certainly not a simple wire. More like a co-ax with special connectors. There is much written about the green wire here, so do a search and you'll see. But even at that, it still seems pricey.
