HVAC is HOT HOT HOT
Just finished a five month rehab of the HVAC and interior. Nothing like that first time back behind the wheel, eh? #bwaahaha
However, the air is blowing warm through the system, even with the thermostat set to the 65 degree override. Here’s what I know:
1. Vacuum lines have been tested from center console - all good.
2. Actuator diaphragms have all been replaced and tested - all good.
3. Heater valve has been replaced and tested for vacuum - all good.
4. Outside air temperature sensor was cleaned and repositioned within alternator cooling hose.
5. Turning on air conditioning does nothing. Can’t tell if the compressor is kicking on. There is a Freon leak somewhere and I plan to add R134 soon.
My concern and my ignorance relate to the opening and closing of the heater valve. Doesn’t that ultimately manage internal vs external air?
Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
Thanks and Peace.

Hey, Tim. Good to hear from you. I've had a fair experience with a/c systems on different cars. For the purpose of your question, I think you need to break your system down into two parts: first the refrigeration system, then the distribution and control system. I would like to see if you have any refrigeration function. For that you need to verify that the compressor is turning. It's a little hard to see, but if you look carefully you will see it. If it is turning, you should really check a/c pressures. My guess is that you have a leak and the compressor will not turn on due to low pressure. If verified you would ideally find and repair or replace the faulty component, then recharge with 80-85% of the R12 by weight. I would have a good indy garage do that, by machine although you may be able to DIY.
Keep us posted, we'll figure it out.
Take care,
Dave

First thing to check, is if the temperature flap motor is actually working. When you sit in the driver seat, turn on the ignition and move the temp lever on the HVAC controller in the centre console either from full cold to full warm or vice versa. About where your right knee is located, you should here an electric motor running. Report back what you find...

Schocki - thank you. That motor was NOT running. Thanks to help from Hacker, I pinpointed the motor and pin connections and revived it. Never knew what that was. Big thanks.
