What are the A/C Recharge Options?

Just trying to get my gauge set hose connected to that port I find I have to drop the HT lead from the bottom of the distributor. The easiest way to access is with the fan shroud removed- in my case with a SPAL twin fan module I can whip that kit out in about 1 minute flat!
Needless to say when I have to work on mine I do so with a cold motor! If the motor gets hot in the process I leave it to cool down before attempting to remove the service hose. Having it part loose and peeing out gas as one fumbles the ball is not my idea of fun!

R-12 "compatible"
For anybody else following this, post #14 is all you need to know AND if you put anything besides R-12 in there (and you are honest) no legit shop will touch it. It will foul their equip and there will be a huge bill and/or lawsuit to recover their costs. Disclaimer: there may not be any shops doing r12 now anyway. Bottom line the result is YOU will the one who has to work on it if anything else goes wrong.
You also SHOULD have the EPA certificate which is not difficult to pass to be able to buy on ebay. It is basically 12 -15 pages of text to convince you not to vent to atmosphere.

This thread has spiraled off on tangents far from my original questions
The one question that I asked that hasn't been answered is....tips on access to the low side port. I haven't spent a lot of time looking, but it didn't jump out at me during any of my work on the car, including removing the radiator and doing the timing belt. And just recently looking for it casually after a drive, it wasn't readily obvious. Before I go digging more, it would be nice if someone had a specific description or photo. There are a lot of other things that I've found that are not quite stock on the car, and the WSM doesn't give much clarity on the actual location of the A/C ports.
If not, it's not a big deal, I'll locate it.

It's also simple to connect to: With 90 degree R134a posts on a set of gauges (the only way you should ever fill an AC system) you can snake your hand under there and snap it on and off. Granted it's a bit tougher when the engine is warmed up due to the coolant hose, but it's not the end of the Earth.

I had the car on the lift to change the diff/trans fluid and took a look at the AC lines from below. It's much easier to see, and even reach, from below. Thanks for the guidance on locating it.

I finally got some R12 gauges hooked up to the car and found that the low side was at about 10psi. It's been 11 or 12 years since the A/C was last serviced, so I'm ok with that. I added some R12 and it seems to be back to where it was.
