In the old world we have the side markers behind the front wheels not in front of the wheels.

... except they are not side markers, but indicator repeaters.

What is the difference? Aren´t the ones sitting in front of the front wheels on US specs cars direction indicators?

When I replaced the steering rack on the Stepson, the old one gave me quite a tussle removing it. After getting the original one out of the way, I was prepared to fight the new one into place. Lo and behold, it just slid right into place within a few seconds and EVERYTHING lined up. I began bolting everything up but then thought to myself that there was no way it could ever be this easy. I must have done something wrong. I removed the new steering rack to check that everything was as it should be. It then took me several hours to get everything lined up as it had been previously done in a few seconds.

Just another example of hours of one's life spent that can never be reclaimed.
