Default S4 Rear Wiper Disassembly

Hi, all. i noticed that one of the two rods that attach to the rear wiper arms is missing a bushing that seals the body opening. I am going to order the part from Roger, but want to make sure I disassemble and reassemble correctly. Any suggestions? You can see the missing bushing here on the right arm:

Pop the caps, 13mm and 10mm and pull the wiper off. #5 allen key under the hatch and pull the assembly then you should be good to go. Might need to pull the hatch trim back to get it out.

When i reassemble with the bushing in place, should i use any gasket adhesive to make sure there are no leaks there? I suspect i just disassemble and put the new bushing in place, then use the existing bushing for the other one. Just trying to stop all the leaks!

Yes you should use the DC111 on the rubber portion of the wiper unit, and on the shafts
The bigger the glob the better the job.

NOTE also remove the lock cylinder and the rubber grommet and put it on that rubber as well.

Thanks, Stan. I conveniently already have the Molykote since i used it on the hatch seal refresh, and I had accidentally gotten a replacement lock gasket a while back that I just kept around. Good time to have that on hand!

So I removed the lock to use the DC111 on the rubber. When I removed it, i reached into the hatch frame and pulled out a perfectly good bushing for the wiper!

However I’m having trouble removing the top screw from the wiper support arm, as the rod rotates with it. Not sure how to have it hold still as my grips aren’t holding it.

also. Do I need to remove the wing to remove the wipers from the stems?

So I was able to get it all removed. I ended up removing the wing for clearance and was able to get lock grips on the shaft to remove the nut. It took a little aggression to get the wiper off, but it came odd and I removed the unit from the hatch.

After looking at the bushings, I think the smaller one was put on the larger rod, so I’ll probably replace both bushings to be safe.
