Fixing door panel top "flare"
Hi all,
Continuing work on rehabbing the 928 and I got new outer door sweeps. Before I take off the door panel to do the soapy slide in, has anyone had door panels that had flared up over time (shrinking leather??)? I would like to correct this while it is apart. I think I could epoxy in some aluminum angle that would let me bend the top down to match the window.
Or is there some other part of this door panel I am missing on the car that closes that gap?
Thanks

I bought the car like that... I don't like the way it looks. Its on my list to fix / replace so it looks like it did when the car was new... I don't know the cause of it... maybe the sun... maybe dampness ..not sure

I have that on some of my cars, but maybe not quite as bad. It kinda looks like your covering is vinyl, which would mostly rule out shrinkage of the covering as the cause. My thought would be to pull back the covering and try to steam the fiber panel until it can be bent back.

The inner door panels wont have any effect on this.
That trim is really thin Al, likely just aged and warped on its own via 10,000 heat cycles (Its black).
Another issue might be the window inner felts push too hard outwards, that WILL slightly bow the outter panel, and appear to do this eventually.
Or note how the inner/ouuter panels bow when the window goes up all the way...enough tiny cycles of this and parts wont mate with each other...eventually.
Its only been 35yrs...right?

I'm asking about the bowed up inner panel. See the gap above. Outer trim is fine, I just was looking for ideas for fixes before I tear the door apart. I'm doing this in conjunction with replacing the outer sweep since it seems like the inner panel should come off anyway.
Ah, I was focused on the outside trim, thought the inner would be obvious.
Heat and moisture over time will warp that inner panel, to make it simple. Not so much shrinkage, as the material is glued, not staped.

Thanks, again seeking advice from people that have fixed it. My current plan would aluminum angle epoxied to the inside so I can bend it back and to the perfect line. There is no other trim between the door panel leather and the window? Thanks!
