Default Star washers for ground points?

Hi Guys,
I'm working on a couple of ground points. I have researched the use of star washers to improve the function of ground points. I have found varying opinions ranging from they actually reduce contact and current flow, to without them devices often fail only to be fixed by replacing them. I have also found the placement of washer controversial. Should they be between the chassis and wire terminal, or between the wire terminal and the nut, or both. I know I could just clean and reassemble what I have, then coat with grease, but would star washers make a more durable connection?
Thanks in advance.
Dave

Good clean and flat contact will give you the optimal connection (frame/chassis to wire), followed on top by a flat and then either lock or star to the bolt, IMO

^ Yep.

The bigger the contact patch the better, and once cleaned they are good for another 20+ years.

I like use a copper washer as a buffer and coat all surfaces with "De-OX". I bought a bottle many years ago and still have plenty remaining. A little goes a long way. The copper washer deforms a bit, creating a good contact surface and effectively sealing out moisture at the same time.

I clean everything up and if it's in an area that will get wet or rust, have a copper conductive paste I apply Improves the contact and prevents future corrosion. It was a bottle I bought form Eastwood about 15 years ago that I'm still using.

Deoxit also makes a Shield product you can use to help protect the connections after using the D5 cleaner, which I also sometimes use too.
