Default Dash squeaks

Hi All,

I've got a dash squeak thats driving me nuts, if i thump on the top of the dash on the centre line i can make it happen every time. I've tried moving the pod, holding the hvac flaps, checking everything behind the centre console that i can reach and checked under the windshield cowl but no sign of the source.
Anyone had the same or can suggest possible sources, it really spoils driving the car on anything but smooth roads.

Thanks,
Gary

Gary,

Are you talking about a squeak or a continuous high pitched squeal?

Hi Fred,

A squeak from vibration or going over bumps. Changing all the hvac settings, turning off and changing fan speeds makes no difference.
The PO fitted a dash cover so entirely possible that a fixing wasnt put back or its now rubbing against something. But thumping anywhere other than the top centre of the dash doesnt cause it, so very localised.

Cheers,
Gary

Hi Gary,

Top of the morning to you albeit it is now afternoon your time!

Squeak or squeal both can be very irritating. The more obvious thing to do is to check the various hidden mounting fixtures to ensure one has not loosened off. In particular check as best you can that the display panel mounts appear to be present and fastened correctly as they can be a bit tricky to mount.

Its a good chance the windshield is rubbing on the front edge of the dash,
when the dash was fitted they used a strip of felt to do the rubbing.

You could go get some black felt strips and then a wedged piece of plastic .
Gently wedge the plastic between the dash and the glass and slide a strip of felt in.
NOTE dont press very hard with the wedge tool as you can distort the glass enough to crack it.
best to do this on a warm day the glass adhesive will be softer.

My squeaks were from the windshield rubbing the A-pillars at the top corners. It sounded like it was lower.
