Need Headroom, Any options?
#16
Here is how I handled the issue, I am 6'4";
1. I sold my '88 S4 with sunroof and replaced it with an 86 sunroof delete;
2. I bought Corbeau A4 seats and had them shave down the base;
3. I mounted the above seats as far back, and thus as low, as the seat mounting holes on the floor permit;
4. I got an extended hub steering wheel to let my arm geometry now match my extended leg room ( and thus lean the seat further back too);
5. I added a second horizontal bar to my roll bar to allow the harness shoulder mount points to sit at the right level and not compress my spine in a crash.
I realize it sucks that step #1 means that you may need to buy a new car if you want to track a 928, but I long ago accepted that my height put me at the end of the bell curve that often meant common items did not fit me well and I would have to do additional shopping to get exactly what I needed.

This is the amount of space comprised by sun roof sub panel compared to actual roof.
So I got a little aggressive this morning and did a sunroof delete. Stay tuned.

FYI, Constantine made/had someone make a carbon fiber piece for the Coca Cola car's sunroof delete. You might touch base with him to see if he can source one for you.
While you are at it, those rear seats can be deleted. And then the stereo, rear sun visors, quarter panel covers, AC, etc... You are on the precipice of a very slippery slope to a full blown race car!

Interesting. I took my 928S to an autocross, used one of their helmets, and with the seat all the way back plus reclined I was just able to fit. Note I am 6 foot eight, 36 inch inseam so a lot of it is in the legs.
I'll have to buy a helmet for the upcoming track day, not sure how doing this for hours is going to work. When I raced Lambos out in Vegas I did need a smaller helmet in order to fit inside one of those, that was plain stupid-fun. :-)
Another option is to get a 944S or Turbo, they have insane amounts of headroom due to the concave sunroof. But yes, I want to drive the 928 too, so got to make allowances.
