Default Tach meter readings/spark plug wires

with all the new intake and other bits that I have replaced this past year, my idle is now incredibly dead spot on.
not only is my tach needle dead steady, but so is my oil pressure gauge. when I had a very slight idle "drift" my tach
would read steady, but my oil pressure gauge had a very slight "wobble." no more! but...……………

just borrowed a friends automotive multimeter that attaches to plug wires to test rpm. the engine and exhaust sounds reflect the dead steady
idle mentioned above, but the multimeter digital tach keeps bouncing around by 2 to 300 rpms. my plug wires could be original and
certainly due for replacement, but I have done the water bottle/firefly test, and they appear to be fine, and I don't have a miss.

since the multimeter reads thru the plug wires, is it possible, that even though I have nothing noticeable with idle or missing,
could this be telling me my plug wires are on the way out? might say that the meter is at fault, but the bosch hammer will not read
steady either: bounces between 743, 795, and 848. thoughts??
