I don't like the sound of it either.......I would just get a used engine in excellent condition and get on down the road.......I think it's going to cost him much more $$$$ this route.....

Earl,

If this gets to be a regular thing, maybe you can have an electric heater made up in a clamshell configuration, to wrap around the joint & heat it up. Probably cost a couple/few hundred dollars, which may be worth it if you do a lot of 'em.

To repeat a much earlier post, and reinforce Mike's comment above - still not too late to ship in a good used engine, save a lot of $'s, and get back on the road!- otherwise, your friend stands to get royally burned!!!

Rob told me that the mechanic doesn't even have the 928 workshop manuals. He doesn't even have access to the engine specs to see what the recommended torque settings are.

I don't like the direction this is going for Rob at all.
Will he consider selling the car?

I don't know, but it might become a possibility if his repair bill goes much higher.

Dave, I wonder what the core credit would be on your friend's engine if he were to trade it to one of the big 2 for a good used engine........That is the route I would go.......

What other way can it go?

These type of things are a Pandora's Box...things are going to pop up in addition to a case of the 'might as well' will set in. Let me know.

BD I will offer him fifteen hundred cash for the car. Bottom line 60 to 70% of the people on this board could not afford to fix their porsche if they were in the postion robs in just plain facts not lies.

George: I appreciate the offer.

I doubt Rob wants to sell now that he's already hip-deep in repair bills.
