Headlamp regulator adjustment procedure?
One question I’ve been wondering about for a while now is how to properly adjust the rest position of the headlights when they are retracted. I’ve seen several 928’s with their headlights in different states of rest with respect to the level of the fender. Some people have them well recessed below the fender maybe up to 3/4 of an inch in some people have them more flush to the fender. I’ve hunted around for a setup procedure but haven’t been able to find one. I’ve noticed there is quite a lot of room for adjustment between adjusting the The main lift bar on the left and right sides as well as adjusting the lift motor mounting position. Has anybody got any information on how to properly adjust this?

As you accurately cited, there is a ton of adjustment. I don't know of any textbook way to do it. I feel like the 8" H4s should sit back less than others. Otherwise, to get the proper aim, you have to virtually max out their adjustments.

I've never set them as deep as the cheapo 7" lights. The aim I am comfortable with requires me to bring them up out of the hole a little. To each their own. I guess it's a matter of preference really.
I set the 8" H4s just like the car shown in the first example of the OP.

I don't think it's a preference, just a setup issue. Nobody prefers to point at the ground, or the road signs above the car in front of them..we're all wanting IMHO, within the same 2-3degrees of alignment.
What I did learn in my work with intimate work with my hardware, is that a _super_ tiny alignment issue at the bar, can result in most of an inch of alignment error at the bulb face (arc length).
It's a PITA to get it setup right, if for some reason it gets out of alignment.
