Default 86 compressor orientation

Working on an 86 and found compressor belt worn on outside edge. Compressor front rear location is none adjustable seems like harmonic balancer has been removed in the past. Does the compressor pulley have an orientation need to make up a few Mm for it to align. Rather not have to remove the front pulley if that is not causing the problem, any suggestions?
Thanks

If the shoulder washer that fits on the crank inboard of the pulley is the wrong way round I understand that can induce some unwanted phenomena but to check for that the pulley would have to come off. Maybe some of the chaps will have other suggestions easier to deal with.

Your referring to the large crank beveled washer used on the crank bolt?
I would assume other belts would also be off going to double check on everything.

That's the one. Having not made that mistake I have no personal experience of the consequences- seem to remember a thread where someone had this problem and that created consequences.

Whether or not this is the root cause of your problem remains to be seen. By all means got some more opinions on the matter- just a suggestion at this stage.

Are you sure that the compressor mount to the engine is tight, that AC pulley usually has a small square balance weight, and it should be on the back side
Post up some pics

Having just buttoned my '87 up, I can confirm that my A/C pulley has a small rectangular weight that faces the engine when installed in the correct orientation.

I swapped it, I did measure it distance is equal on both sides and weights were on the outside originally.

The complaint was a noise I found the fan pulley loose pulled it out and found one side reamed out. The fan bracket when mounted sits between the rear and center pulley. The fan is connected to the power steering pump, is it possible that a water pump with a thicker casting is installed no way can I account for this from what I observed so far.

Hard to show with pictures but the fan assembly needs to be moved forward to align with second section of the pulley.

The Cooling fan belt originally shared the Air Pump for tension adjustment, (guessing your Air Pump was removed)
The PS Pump should be a stand alone belt.

Get a short 20 or 21" belt (Roger@928sRus) has them and run that from the Crank to the Fan, then get the correct belt for the PS pump.
I did this one last week on an 86.5 that hasn't run in over 12 years .

After looking at the Pic w/ the string, you could use three correctly sized washers and shim the Fan mount out a bit, doesn't look like you would need more than a few mm.
