Default 82 Sport /Competition Model...super cheap but really ruff

So I have a chance of getting a 1982 Comp/Sport Model in very ruff shape not run for 18 years . It has a 5 speed 40 % diff lock . PO swears it ran when parked....... dont they all. Think its worth getting for $400.00 . I didn't take pics .

Personally, I think it is an nice year-model. Better trans, injection, brakes, suspension than earlier YM and manageable complexity. I would much rather resurrect an Ljet car than a Kjet car. Obviously, the big ticket items are the paint and interior and of course your expectations for how nice those should be.

They all run "when parked", otherwise you are not actually parking it.

Your car is almost exactly what I'm working on only I paid $1000 for it. I'm really into it and it's fun to work on. Just got a new dash back from Budd and all the interior will be new. At first I was going to use it as a parts car but then I realized that it could be a very special.

Define "ruff". Where was it parked (inside, outside, covered, ect)?
Is it complete?
How bad is the paint?
How bad is the interior?

What do you expect out of it?
What will you have to put into it to get there?

I think you know these cars well enough that it will likely take an engine pull, full engine 'reseal' and recondition.

If nothing else, there's a couple grand worth of parts if it's reasonably complete (but parting a car out is a pretty big job - again, you should know this).

You don't have to give me any answers to these questions, but you should answer them for yourself.

Besides, if it 'ran when parked', it should just take a fuel pump relay to get it running again, right?
