Are these front springs cut? 1987 S4, US
I'm replacing shocks for a friend, to new Bilsteins, on his 87 S4. The car was sitting pretty low in front, and I suspect the springs have been cut. I count 7 1/2 rounds. Any ideas? And what would be his best option at this point?

Likely just sagging old springs. Don't look cut to me.

After looking at some photos of my own car's springs, I agree they don't look cut, and the coil count matches at 7.5. So - probably not cut.
I thought spring sagging was not common, and that replacing the springs only was necessary if broken. Maybe I'm wrong?

Any old spring will sag over time. You could try adjusting back to the factory ride height, that's what I did with my 87. Although I now wish I had changed the springs, just too bad that we can't get the ebachs any more. I scored a used set of ebachs for Daniels 89 and we find the ride to be excellent, way better than the old stock springs, firm but not rough.
