I believe Mrmerlin/Stan is thinking ahead, and it is some good thinking (as usual). He is thinking about the type of frustration I, and I suspect others, experience when we find an old but relevant thread which refers to another also current (at that time) informative thread, but no link is provided. Since in that future time, it will be an old thread, the other thread was only easy to find (both on page 1 of the 928 Forum threads) at that now past time when they were both "fresh" (when you bumped your thread you created that convenience for us at THIS point in time, but only for this point in time). After that point, the two separate threads will likely continue to diverge on their own timelines and finding one in the future will not necessarily mean it will be easy to find the other.

need to have a different steering wheel that has provision for the adapter and then also has the adapter or obtain one separately. The problem is that the crush zone hubs are totally different between the steering wheels. In other words the Porsche adapter will not screw onto the non-extended wheel. Here are a few pictures of what I am talking about. One shows the two wheels together, one with the extension attached and the other without. The second picture shows the two wheels together without the extension, and it show just how different the bases of the crush adapters are from each other. The third picture show just how the crush hubs are riveted to the center of each wheel. In order to adapt the extension to the non-extended wheel one would have to drill the rivets out of each wheel and then bolt the crush hub with the adapter to the other wheel.

How much extension do you think you need, or how much would you desire? If something like or similar to what Darklands posted in his link above could be made available, how deep would you like it to be? There are problems with what his link suggests, but up to about a half inch or not much more, the major one of them can be overcome, I think.
My analysis of the steering wheel extension shown in Darklands link is that there are about 4 problems with it. One is that it is very much overkill. By that I mean that there is no need for the thing to be that complex. All that is really needed is four small extensions about 3/4 inches in diameter with the bolt hole in the center and turned to be just exactly the length of whatever the desired extension needs to be. Then drill the rivets out and put the crushable hub back in spaced out by the four washer-like rings made for the extension. The next problem is that with the hub spaced out any more than about a half inch, more or less, the rubber trim cuff will no longer fit like it should. They don't show anything about that in the Link. Up to about a half inch I think the cuff can be trimmed out inside some to have it still fit. More spacing than that and I don't have a clue about how to accommodate the extension with the cuff. The next problem is simply that in the pictures shown in the Link the bolts are too short. Finally, they show a black ring of some sort but they don't show how it is used to fill the gap left at the bottom of the rubber cuff. I think a more complex ring needs to be turned to fit the bottom of whatever is left of the rubber cuff and the bottom of the crushable hub in its new position.
