Where to buy a metal "Y" piece ?
Some time ago someone (Nicole ?) was able to supply stainless versions of the tank vent's infamous "Y" piece.
Is there a source of these available now ? Roger ?

I know - I have one - but alas they are no more.

The last batch I had quoted and made in SS were over $65 each so I never went forward with the order. Shipping and handling plus my overheads and profit would have made the selling price circa $80.
With the plastic Porsche Y connector (supposedly now made of better materiel) at $25 you could change it three times (maybe 40 years) and still save money.

All cars with a fuel vapor recovery system - charcoal canister under the right fender. Not all but the vast majority have the Y.

The original ones would last from 5 minutes to 5-ish years. I put one of the new ones in a couple of months ago in a client's car. We'll see...
I suspect that it will be not unreasonable to have these 3d-printed out of metal. I have a spare new connector that I was going to model-up and see. But, that has to happen in my spare time which is not on the immediate horizon.

My criteria for building new "improved" pieces has to pass a logic test.
How long did the original part last?
Is it still available?
How much will it cost to build?
Can enough be sold to make sense of doing all the work (developmental time is worth something, too!) to make a new version?
Can you actually improve on the design and improve the function of the car?
Is there a downside to making another version/change in design? (Many people completely miss this part of the test....and you people "drinking the poison" and using some of these products are completely nuts.)
For this part, as long as Porsche still has them and doesn't quadruple the price (short heater hose from adapter on block to heater control valve on late cars comes to mind....$38.00 for 2" of hose is a pretty stupid price), buy it from them.

I had to replace mine recently. The previous one only lasted 18 months. At the time I blamed the guy who fitted it but perhaps they still aren’t that durable. It’s a shame that the steel ones are no longer available as I would certainly have been interested in one. It’s not all about the cost of the part - I also factor in the cost of my time and I don’t really want to be wasting it replacing this part every few years. Plenty of other things to be getting on with.
