Default Temp not Registering

Hey fellas,

1989 S4 with recent TB/WP, thermostat with all thermostat housing rubber changed. Temperature reading on the dash isn’t registering. Didn’t paint intake. Cleaned under the temp II sensor. What can I check before removing the thermostat?

There are two wires on the Temp sender (drivers left side of water bridge) one for the gauge and one for the temp warning light, check the connections at the sensor.
Also disco the battery and clean the 14 pin connector.

The 14 pin connector is new. Changed wiring harness during TB/WP change. The 89 doesn’t have the individual connectors on temp II.

TEMP-II is on the passenger side of the bridge and feeds the EZK and LH. TEMP-I is on the driver side of the bridge and feeds the gauge. Check continuity from the 2-pin connector to the corresponding pins on the 14-pin jump post connector for TEMP-I

Thanks for enlightening me. No wonder nothing changed when I was working with the Temp II sensor. I'll check again later.

Talked to Ash just now, he's bring the car to Frenzy so I'll check it out. Sounds to me like I may have goofed on the harness. Easy to check out and will update in the parking lot.

We tested Ash's temp sensor (coolant) and I could not get any ohm reading from any spots on the sensor so told him to order a new one from Rog. The harness all checked out so we eliminated that, which made me feel better. Hope to hear if the sensor fixed it.

Got the temp I sensor from Roger today. Sean the shark whisperer was correct, I have a reading now. Thanks for the diagnosis Sean. Now if I can figure out why the noisy pulley. Seems to be making way to much noise.

I don't think we even listened to that did we? Glad the temp issue is fixed tho, it's a start
