Default JVC Marine radio install - Finally a screen that you can read during the day

Well I recently scored a mint Reno for my car, but after installing it I just wasn't happy with the sound quality and the sat radio receiver I put in the centre arm rest was a pain in the *** to use while driving.

So I just installed a marine unit from JVC and the compatible SirusXM tuner and could not be more pleased. The JVC unit has a positive display and works great even in bright sunlight, It's available as a CD unit or as a media deck, I went with the media only version since I will be using sat radio and my ipod. I got the deck and the sat tuner for $220 cdn all in.

Like many new decks it has all kinds of led colours and flashing light options, I have set it up without any flashing lights and to an orange colour that matches well within the stock dash. It has a microphone, which I installed inside the ashtray. The sat radio tuner is tucked away in the centre console and the sat antenna is inside the third brake light housing. So far I have been getting a strong signal with only a few drop outs when passing tall buildings.

The deck itself has plenty of power to run the factory speakers, it's amazing how good these old speakers can sound with a new deck, sub and proper high pass and low pass filters.

For the sub I went with an Alpine all in one unit and it's great. This allowed me to put the spare tire back in, and the sub fits perfectly on the back of the rear seat. Photo is from when I did a test fit, wires are no longer hanging out.

The deck:

The Sub:

The sat tuner:

Prior to this I had a Pioneer unit that sounded great as well, but the screen was totally useless during the day.

That's a good idea for the satellite antenna I think I might relocate my satellite antenna to that spot this winter--it's currently sitting near the driver's side rear speakers.

That must have been a pain to get the antenna wire all the way back there.

You have your door panels off - are you doing something else as well?

Thanks. The tint also helps to hide the antenna. My tint is ceramic so it does not limit reception.

Ya, the antenna wire was hard, I ran the cable along side the factory brake light cable and then up under the rear headliner, down near the dooor, then along the floor up and over the CE panel and into the console. I did have the doors off and I insulated them with killmat, stock speakers.

Thanks Dave, I have my moments. LOL What was not brilliant was accidentally cutting the antenna wire when I was trimming the audio wires. Always fun to do something twice, luckily I had a spare antenna on the shelf.
