1983 euro 928 auto trans need help please
Hello,
Need some help please , I have a 83 928 3speed auto that has developed an issue with the auto transmission the car is uk delivered, in brief the car was all fine but now the transmission is playing up if I start the car and select reverse gear it engages all fine , then select Drive (or any forward gear ) and engages now the problem if I then select reverse doesn't engage , if I then turn the engine off and restart and select reverse it engages but engage forward gear and again no reverse, I have checked and changed transmission fluid (including the torque converter) with new filter , checked cables under car with some one else moving the lever and seems fine any ideas would be a great help as driving me mad thanks
John

Hi John,
Not selecting reverse is usually a harbinger of death - sorry.
I am assuming fluid levels are correct and that you have good vacuum to the modulator.
How many miles?
Roger

Jonn check the reverse band adjustment screw on the right side. If that has not backed out replace the oring on the reverse piston which is on the left side. That can be changed with the trans still in the car.

I have same model car and box. If left unused for any length of time reverse is slow to take up, but always does. There is an adjustment procedure in WSM, and on this list - basically cut a slot in the stub of the broken off bolt (front right, above kickdown solenoid), screw bolt in till bottomed, back out nn(1.5 or 1.75?) turns. All my other gears operate properly and smoothly.
