My dash pod gauges just went out a bit ago, I was wondering if this is a common problem with common errors in repair.
The preludes to the fall:
1. Intermittant readings on gauges
2. Gauges would go dead but could be revived by pressing the trip odometer reset button
3. Gauges went dead
4. Gauges Spontaneously revived themselves once
5. Odometer does not function and gauges inop
6. With parking brake lever down: gas reads half tank on a full tank, speedo reads about 20 MPH (with lights on) and 35 MPH (lights off), both odmeters inop, tach is dead, oil pressure reads 3 BAR under load and dead otherwise, voltmeter is dead (but the idiot light works).
7. New development: gauge needles bounce and Master Caution light on center console flashes. This doesn't happen all the time, but about 60% of it.
8. HELP!!!

Sounds like a grounding problem. Or corrosion in connectors at pod or relay panel. You can try pulling and seating the connectors along the bottom of the relay panel. And do the same for the three connectors to the pod. A wiring diagram would really help for this.

This may not help in this case - but it will eventually.....
Think back to the last "improvement" attempted on the car, and start sleuthing from there!
I had several days of a mild case of the symptoms you describe - softly glowing dash lights, alarm lights flickering, etc. Finally recalled replacing an ashtray bulb shortly before (funny little spring-loaded socket): Found out that I'd created a voltage leak to ground!
Site of the crime: - the last thing that was touched.

While your cleaning things I would make sure the ground contacts by the fuse panel and under the dash are clean. You could also make sure the cluster plugs are clean and making good contact. If your problem is not constant it has to be a ground or connection.
Hi Garth, headlight still not working.

Tim,
When you're cleaning, you may want to use "Deoxit-It" from CAIG (www.caig.com). This stuff actually works, unlike radio shack cleaners. I've used it on a few items now and was really pleased w it...I even bought their 'kit' to carry in the car. It's especially useful for areas that are hard to reach w a piece of emery paper or the like.
