Projectors?

you would save weight by deleting the popups and if the install looked like the h4s when down it would look great. nocturnal aerodynamics, i dunno, maybe this is the domain of stealth bombers more.. i havent noticed any difference in gas mileage to speak of between night and day in terms of cd.
i agree the projectors when installed on their own look too small for the car, it needs a larger reflective surround cosmetically IMO.
i like the pop-ups, i think they add a 'classic/vintage' reference to the car. you really think installing them in the aero surround would be straightforward? would you simply enlarge the rear opening to the lens, where the bulb currently sits?

drnick,
Installation in the aero surround would be straightforward to the extent of already having attachment points and a cover. I would have to make a Lexan cover for the front and a attach the projector units to the 'horseshoe' with a custom bracket.
I really like the look of the lights down. And the view down the hood too.
All the neuvo-retro cars have faux round headlights with projectors.
I thought about trying to incorporate blinkers/marking lights into the design too...
If I were to make the in fender mount, I would sell my H4's (as commanded by 'she who must be obeyed'). Anyone interested in a set of 1 year old Euro H4's w/StrongGuards for $400 (US shipping incl.)?
...
Joe Dyer,
I tried the first generation of those:
But they didn't work too well. Plus I wasn't comfortable with the sealing system I made for the rear (the factory H4 rear seal is much cooler).
There is a fellow on eBay selling replacement new style bulbs, and I'm considering going this route, but I'm afraid I'll still have the same problem with glare and poor focus.

PorKen,
I'll have to check the box in storage and see what I installed. My H4 bulbs look very similar to the 6000K HID Bulbs selling on Ebay.
Without modifying our current headlight hole, is there enough room to mount the projector kit and not loose too much beam hitting the bottom of the hole?

Joe Dyer,
Are your bulbs real HID, and are they hi/low? How do they perform?
I think there is plenty of room; the hi/low projectors I'm looking at are 90mm, the Phat car's look smaller than that, but there is plenty of room.
Phat928 | Projects | Lighting
Room enough really for a 90mm hi/low projector and a smaller high beam only unit, side by side.
...
I could reuse the headlamp motor for a highway mode air dam, or...

I think I'm gonna drop the HID thing and just go for the projectors for simplicity.
These sealed, adjustable, Hella 90mm units are ~$60 each!
Susquehanna MotorSports
Hella 90mm Lamp Modules
There's even matching fogs and the high and fog units are not very deep, so they could go in the bumper:

ok, I definitely need a 2nd style rennlist card that says "Congratulations on turning your Porsche 928 into an Acura Integra" for that orange one.
The old style pop-up headlights are the perfect accent to the design of the car imho. Those tinted caps are pretty cool but not the integra!

I agree that the projectors destroy the "traditional" 928 look...
But the look of the projectors is cool in it's own way.
But yes, it does not look like a 928 anymore.
In fact, not like a Porsche anymore either.
If it was in red, it would scream Ferarri.

IMHO, I would never eliminate the 928 pop-ups as they are a huge feature of our cars, and one that I love.
Successfully modifying the pop-ups to incorporate the projectors is another matter. I think that it would be very interesting.
The black 928 with dual projectors on page one looks like it has 2 20mm canons in each fender! Sort'a looks like an F86!

I would love to see a clear custom made drop in HID system for our cars...It would eliminate weight, drag, complexity, and increase light out put.
It would look like a cross between the 911 style and the spyder conversion style and would not require modifying the fenders. Someone with a CAD program design it and have it made from a plastic injection mold. I will buy the first set.....HA...HA

What about an 8000K HID Zenon H4 Kit? This should be a great improvement and retain our pop-ups.
