ps. i'm on a slow dialup & traveling on bsiness & these pages load very slow!
Found this thread kinda late!

These type's of posts are sad. I have been friends with a couple of used car dealers for many years. I've bought and sold a few sports cars so has my father. I grew up with this business around me. If you buying a 10+ year old high performance sports car from anybody but the original owner. Its YOUR job to find out what you need to know about the car.

The PPI I had on my 944S back in 1996 was incredible. There was no way a non Porsche dedicated shop would have known the things they found. So did I blame the dealer? No way, their business is to make the most money on every car they sell. It's your job as the buyer to make sure you checked EVERYTHING before you buy it. If not, tough sh*t, it's yours now.

For this new guy gonefishin - the timing of this post does seam fishy. Where did you get your PPI done? What did he lie about? Was it the mileage? Sorry, that can be verified BEFORE you buy as well. I never even consider buying a used car before my shop and even a friend of mine that does body work look the car over. Even when I bought my 1986 Scirocco back in 2001 for $2500.00. I test drove the car 5 times and had my shop spend the better part of a day ripping into the car. Why? He claimed it was a Texas car that never saw snow. I did not believe him.

Bottom line, if you don't do your homework, you shouldn't have bought the car. Buyers remorse is not the fault of the seller.

Sorry for the rant and rippin on a new guy. But showing up and your first post is: "This guy's a dishonest SOB" doesn't sit well with me.

I have no idea whether Sean or anyone else is honest, but I disagree that buyers are supposed to completely ignore whatever description a seller provides. A PPI is always a "must" part of buying a 928, but if a seller says a car is excellent, mint, etc., and it's not, that's crap.

In a situation where an item is missed and is not part of the typical PPI, if a seller has claimed that a car is "mint" or something like that, I believe the seller, unless the sales terms contain the typical fine print that disclaim everything he's said in describing the car (which itself should be a warning), is going to be in hot water.

I guess I'm very old school when it comes to buying cars. I do not trust anything that a buyer says. I've been in many situations where after a bit of poking around, my opinion did not agree with the seller.

Its 100% opinion. I now a guy with a 1986 951 that thinks his car is the nicest Porsche on the road. He honestly does. My opinion? Not even a 7 out of 10. If he ever sells the car, he will honestly be saying the car is perfect. In his eyes the car is perfect. Does that make him dishonest? Mechanically the car is better than most but needs a few things (like AC) that to him are useless. He doesn't care that the sunroof doesn't work, he wishes the car didn't even have one. Again, in his honest opinion, the car is mechanically mint.

I even tried to do a PPI on my VW Beetle. I bought the car new with 7 miles on it. The dealer thought I was nuts. They were not going to let me take it on a 240 mile test drive (round trip Milwaukee to GB) to have my shop look it over. 7 oxygen sensors later and 85K, it was a good buy. The sensors were (are) under warranty.

Dave your correct and I know the risks involved and 95% I am on the money and the other 5% I am giving money. I just a bought a viper clutch for 1084 dollars but he was happy and I still came out ahead. I turn down more then I list because in the end I assume alot of what is listed and have never ignored the sitruation.

As for this Joker he has never bought a car through me. I am not giving anyone excuses and lets rehash for a minute. He has his own plane? Hmmm i bet most plane owners went to collage most likely. And he sounds like a moron and too immature with apologies to be over 18....... My guess is he wouldnt know what to do with a 924 let alone a 928..........

Does Rennlist have an IP tracker installed? Red UFO talks about the once and a while.

I just signed up for my 8 hours of class and will become one. I was associated as a "low down dealer" during my first thread reading so I have been hesitant.

Its an advantage I am sure.

I think PPI's are important in almost all cases. Some of the stuff I put up recently I have had records faxed and talked with mechanics who verify dates and services. I only want good cars going to good folks but I understand some peoples reservations on what I do. I cannot fly all over the country and still succeed financially at this but I enjoy it so much that its worth the risk and I a batting around 95% plus in cars so I feel good.....

Sean, I think you doth protest too much.

Quit while you're ahead...

edit - It appears Sean has made changes to his earlier remarks, thus making my post appear to be irrelevant.

I can't vouch for Sean, but I can for Todd (aka Low Miler). I bought an 87 s4 with 75k on it from him back in October. It was exactly as described and I absolutely love the thing. I'm not sure how long he owned the car but he knew it well and was quick to point out little nit-picky things that I would never have noticed.

I have emailed and spoken to him a few times since with questions I had and he was always quick to respond. He knows a lot about these cars and is happy to answer; my guess is very few used car salesmen would even bother to respond once a sale has gone through. I don't know where he finds these cars, but to me just the fact that he does is a great service he provides for prospective buyers. Now, if only he could find my wife a nice 911 targa at a reasonable price....

Todd, thanks again, and good luck with your business.
