722.3 b2 band jam
So I am new to the forum world and have gone through a lot of the post on here. I am look for some help after every thing I have read seam best to start with the b2 piston easy to check and wanted to change the trans filter any way. I got my 1984 928 out of a shed 15 months ago. The po had past and his wife never wanted it it sat for 10 years untouched. Till my father was out fixing a leak at here house saw it and asked why it was just sitting there she said I wish some one would give me five hundred and tow it out so I did but I spent two hours and drove it home.
Back to my fault it would only drive in first if I parked up hill but when I back in so it points down hill I can start it up and go no problem.
Had some friends over for the 4th and felt it would be a good time to blow up my cracked tires. Well I still have them. I got on the gas about 1500 rpms pulled it into D and !!!! Nothing still have reverse.
One thing I have noticed different from the few videos I have found is that the yellow plastic that is next to the b2 band moves free mine does not move at all. Do I need to be in a gear for it to move or is it jammed and can I fix it in car
thats for any help you may have.

Check the fluid level. The car must be sitting level and the trans fluid must be at full operating temp. There is only a few oz. difference between low and filled. These units are VERY sensitive to fluid level. If the fluid level is correct check that the shifter cable is correctly adjusted. Report back with a little more concise description of the symptoms. You also need to call 928s R Us and order "the Morehouse CD's" so you have all the factory service info.

lotsto read in the new visitors sticky at the top. If you haven’t already.
A car sitting that long will need a bit of attention before driving. Replacing all the fluids is part of that, and includes replacing a lot of rubber stuff along the way. Fuel and power steering hoses top that list due to eminent fire danger.
Roger at 928srus has workshop manuals on CD. Essential for anything more than simple stuff, and you’ll likely find a few things that aren’t simple.

Update to what I have done
I have checked all linkage while under car with a helper running and not. Every thing looks good and moves smooth. Had the car running good other then loss of 2-3rd gears some time when parked with the front of the car point up hill. Fluid was at full running in neutral at running temp on level ground. When I lost all drive gears I got on here and read a lot also looked mb 722.3 trans problems the symptoms point to a problem with the b2 band and or piston. Remove the piston is still intact one piece very clean remove the transmission pan and transmission filter to inspect lash to b2 band
the plastic piece that you have to reach past to touch the b2 band is stuck and does not move like I have seen on videos I have watched

The tolerance for band material in the pan is zero. And from your picture it appears that all of that material is from the B2 band.
Remove and rebuild.
You found out why it was parked....there is always a reason.

Some grey sludge in the pan is fine but when you have flakes like those you need to rebuild.
Lucky for you is that the parts to do it are readily available through MB classic as the internals were used in SLs from that period for the generic stuff and through Porsche for the 928 specific items.
Roger over at 928rus can set you up with a shopping list and great prices.
