Another Rabbit Hole for a DD 928
As per title, I fell in.
The descent began with the search for new rear tires, 245/45/16.
I found Toyo Proxes on Tire Rack, $128 each.
Tires delivered to home, local shop mounted.
I had already installed new lower ball joints and outer tie rod ends to coincide for a 4 wheel alignment.
WTF!, I still java a lot of slop on the passenger side wheel, The inner tie rod is bad, (this explanes the vibration felt during hard braking.
So now I have to change the inner tie rod.... AutoZone has a loaner tool program, so I took advantage of that, a $96 deposit gets the "free" loaner tool.
So Ok, too keep a long story short, Rear tires, outer tie rod ends, lower ball joints, rack boots, upper control arm boots, and a pending 4 wheel alignment, will be circa,1K.
keep in mind, this is a DD, No drive time was lost.
108,9xx miles and counting! 😀

FWIW always replace the inner and outer tierods as a set.
NOTE if the rack boots are old put in a fresh set
what tool is this that you need?
You will need a 22mm and 32mm open end wrench to remove the inner tie rods

Big mistake to replace only the outer tie rod as the complete assemblies cost about the same as the outer joints only or so I found out after the fact!
You are not the first to make this mistake and for sure you will not be the last!
If you have not got one, get yourself a ball joint separation tool- they are cheap enough and essential for DIY work on the suspension- do not get the fork type you drive in with a hammer, get the one's with a jack bolt. I had to work mine a bit to remove casting flashes - think they can be had for less than $20. Other than that no tools needed other than wrenches.
