Default 1986.5 Alarm Issue

Been having a few issues with the alarm system. Now it just goes off every time I try to start. The central lock doesn't seem to reset. I'm looking to just disable it rather than fix. I know there is a thread somewhere on this but not sure if older 928 is the same. Looking for a write up or direction on this- difficult or easy? Any downside other than losing the alarm? Thanks.

Relatively easy, can be done by separating and adding a jumper to a flat 8 wire connector that lives behind the CE panel. Or, instead, by jumpering a couple of wires on face of ce panel.

No real downsides. Though it's satisfying when stuff is repaired.

like everything else on the car, solving is fussy and requires lots of patience. Disassembling and cleaning or replacing the door pins and hatch pin are first steps id take if you go for repair.

Thanks for the direction and suggestions. Just before I dive in it looks too simple and this is a 928s. So just to confirm, this was the info on a previous thread. Any expert can weigh in if this is the best and easiest way to bypass. I would rather not take out the glovebox like the other thread mentioned. Thanks

" If you really must disable the alarm (note there may be some other effects...) disconnect the wire connected to the plug socket F25 (top right F plug) and the wire connected to B23 (Right side B plug & down 3 (!) from top). Cap them off/tape them up. Connect the now disconnected plug terminals of F25 & B23 together. This both disables the alarm (horn etc) by removing power and also re-enables the Ignition disable from the alarm."

Can be that simple Thanks Dave

It really is straightforward. I know, I read some post once that directed me to remove half the dashboard, yes that is where the alarm module resides, but the surgery is unnecessary.

But I don't like the idea of cutting the distribution wires coming from the face of the panel at all, even though its really easy to do it.
It just gives such a bad impression to anybody following you to have those wires visibly hacked at the front of the CE panel.

I'd rather do that at the point where they enter the flat connector, which means disconnecting battery and getting behind the panel for access. That's how I did it on my platinum 85 and red 86.

Better solution is to jumper the two wires together after unplugging that connector, but you've got to rig up ends on a jumper wire that will stay in the connector. As I recall, one wire is large diam, the other small. Seems like one was red or red/black, the other yellow. But do your research on wiring diagram to be sure... I guess you can just look at what color, size wires are coming from those wires you noted from the earlier post, which I'm pretty sure are correct ones.

As others said you need to link pins B23 and F25 and unplug the alarm module. OR, you can unplug the alarm module and link Pins 1 - 3 on the connector, (15 and 87a). The module resides behind the glove box. I think you have to remove the parcel tray under the gl box to get at screws for it.

Or unplug, no need to remove module

The exact pins and plugs to do this varies by year, Make certain you are following directions for the year of your car. You don't say anywhere that I can see what year it is. Oh, duh. In the thread title. 86.5

I find it odd that the alarm is going off when you try to start the car. Does it go off when you open the door? It should. That is presuming that the door pin switches are working. Do the interior lights come on when the door is open?

The alarm is not controlled through the central locking. It's controlled from each lock tumbler (both doors & hatch). You should be able to disarm it by unlocking each door or opening the hatch with the key. It arms by locking the door, or by turning the hatch lock to the left with the key (opposite of opening the hatch - doesn't make any noises or anything, just arms the alarm).

If you are locking the car, then finding the alarm going off after you open it, it's likely that the switch at the back of the lock tumbler has failed (or the wiring to it).
