I've read several threads discussing less expensive options as an alternative to replacing the motor for the AC blower fan. I've seen mention of a fan used in a Passat, and a Mercedes (I believe that was a SEL....I would have to go back and look again to get exact model).
What I haven't been able to nail down is the specific year range for the Passat fan motor. I did find one link in a thread, that was evidently a link to the "right" Passat fan, but the link is no longer valid. Can anyone here help me try to find the right one? I just bought my 84 primarily for my girlfriend to drive. We're in Texas. It's pretty rough trying to enjoy the ride with no AC down here...

Are you looking the motor, the fan blade or the motor with fan blade attached?

my motor was making bearing sound, I bought and replaced bearings,,,,somewhat worked then bought a new motor, well worth it , just call Roger...

Thanks guys. I got in touch with Roger. I was a little blown away, because although we've never met or spoken on the phone prior to today ( I just bought my 928 a few weeks ago), Roger somehow knew of me an my car. He said "I saw you driving the red one..." when we spoke. I knew that I had given him zero information about my vehicle. Then he took it even further. He said "we waved at each other on the Highway by the airport, I was driving the black S4." I'm still wondering how he knew that I was the guy he waved at on the highway. And when I say "wondering," I mean full blown obsessing...the mystery is overpowering....

It's because Roger is a wizard, of course! You'll see the advantage of this when you say "Hey I've been thinking of doing job x" and magically you get a box of what you need to do that job delivered to your house a few days later. He knows what my car needs better than I do most of the time...

I installed Roger's motor alternative a few years ago. It does require some rewiring due to the higher draw (because it's a really powerful blower!). It's not difficult and the new fan harness was designed and built by Greg Brown or assembled by one of his skilled staff. I hadn't had the opportunity to really appreciate this motor until my trip from northern Virginia to Camp928 in the Adirondacks. About 18 hours of driving, including rest stops. On the way up it was relatively cool but sunny. I was able to stay comfortable with only the blower on a medium (strong) setting. If I got a little warm in the sun I turned it to highest setting (hurricane). I tried AC but I actually got too cold, and setting it warmer seemed silly since the fan was enough. But on the way home it was 85 to 90 degrees and humid. The AC and this blower worked impressively...very comfortable with the fan speed on lowest position (one above "off"...but the fan is never fully off) and slider at about 72 degrees. I was marveling at the overall comfort cruising at 75 mph in the comfy seat, quiet and effective AC, great driving position, smooth running engine, and the needle hovering on the first line on the temperature gauge whether I had the AC on or not. I've owned the car since 2013, but this was the first time I've driven it as it was designed to be driven (high speed cruiser). The strong blower was part of the overall impression.

It's unfathomable to me....logging into a forum where I've never posted, and I come across two guys that have seen my in my car that I've had only a few weeks. I restored a 944 Turbo, and I was on a forum....nothing similar ever happened and I had that car for 2 years.

What's really weird about seeing you driving your car on 183 is that I saw your lights coming up from behind me at a high rate of speed and I was already driving 80+. I didn't have time to move over so you passed me on my right and I caught glimpse of the car. I thought you might get caught in traffic and I could catch up, but no, you were gone. I was actually on my way to meet up with a couple of other 928 owners who were amazed that I didn't know who the heck you were.
