First is this wire that is near the upper Rad hose ?

Second, I've been wondering what should be connected to the front suspension arms - I found a pic online that appears to show small dampers that attach somewhere on the block - Am I missing them or they were not installed on an 86.5 ?

Not sure what the wire is for. I'm sure someone will chime in on that. Nothing is supposed to be connected to the lower control arm mounts. The early cars (78 and 79 IIRC) use small dampers connected from those mounts to the block as the engine mounts didn't have any damping. In later cars the mounts were change to a hydraulic style mount.

The connector looks like the connector for the AC compressor, but it's in the wrong place.
It seems as though I remember another thread or post about that same wire and connector, and it being used for an optional part or something that seemed pretty rare to me at the time I read about it.

Possibly after engine cooling? The resistor to cut voltage to half is located just ahead of the rad on passenger side?

Assuming your year model has that stuff....?

My theory on the connector was that somebody was looking for switched power and got into the loom on the harness after the 14 connector.
Maybe for a cooling fan, or some such aftermarket fun.

It’s a mystery - there’s nothing around it could go to that I can see - the car is a 1 owner that had no aftermarket other than car phone - and the connection looks oem

Agree on OEM assertion....the connector style is the exact type that is on the wire that goes to my AC compressor...I know this because I put an under-hood relay and took the load off that circuit so I had to get that connector fished out of where it was and pull the wire going to the compressor out the other side..insert the wire going to the relay trigger and then of course the relay output gets plugged into the other side going down to the compressor....funky color wire though...

That mounts is for a engine shock used on 78-82. On your car it is completely vestigial.

The wire is for a tow package Porsche had for these cars IIRC.

Is this definitive ? What would it have gone to ?
