MochaMedics,

Hold onto your hat...your post may yield some reactions from the group.
I believe Jim M is most often credited with compiling the info on most of the widely circulated CD-Rs circulating on eBay and elswhere. Hence, it may be considered a bit of a personal foul to offer the WSM+PETv5 CD-R on the list...since his sweat equity and resources went into producing it. OK gang, did I get the facts straight?

(note: post edited by TUK_928 to remove unintentionally inflammatory comment...).

Cheers,
TUK

Sorry if this is adding wood to the fire.

As 944pilot, I have been looking for a set of manuals on CD.

Should I contact Jim M directly? I assume he is a rennlist member and frequent poster? How to contact him?

"...Also, the fact that you are not (yet?) a paying member worsens the situation..."

Tuk-

It would be wise NOT to assume whether one is or is not a paying member.

Just because someone is shown as a User does NOT mean a thing...

Hi Vicente,
please send me an email at jim928"AT"ptd.net (replace "AT" w @...trying to avoid the spammers). Mochamedia...understood, no hard feelings. To the best of my knowledge there are only two versions of the manual out there, the one manualmedia used to sell which was image only, pure scans w no real navigation aids and mine which is text searchable and has the "Table of Contents w links" file on it to assist in locating info.

Fish - if you are a paid Member but need that designation added, please let me know.

If not, to what were you referring?

Hey Randy,

I am a paying member and when I post or reply to a thread it does not say I'm a member. I figure it will show up when it shows up. I hope the people on this board will help me when I have a question regardless of the designation under my name.

Randy-

A. It shouldn't matter one bit whether one is or is not a "paying member" to participate on this board.

B. The fact that some people feel the need to reiterate things like "Also, the fact that you are not (yet?) a paying member worsens the situation" is EXACTLY why I choose NOT to have the "exclusive" Member designation under my name.

C. If you have the power as a Mod to change a person's designation yet don't know who is or isn't a member should be a clue that something needs to be changed.

D. NOWHERE is there an option or disclaimer stating that one has to ask for "Member" to appear under their forum name after paying dues.

1. Exactly HOW is one to know they have to ask?

2. Show me one other club, association, fraternal organization, etc. that requires one to ASK for a "Member" designation to be shown with their name after paying membership dues.

I also didn't appreciate your snide comment via email about me "hiding" behind a nick while someone else wasn't. Next time, have the guts to REALLY say what's on your mind instead of making a snide comment, mmm, OK?

BTW, just as you're entitled to your opinion about forum nicks, others are entitled to their privacy or whatever reason they choose to have a nick.

When I wasn't a member people would help me, now that I am, I still get the same great help. I think there are just a few out there that will judge whether or not a person "deserves" their help. Help is just that, help. It's something we give each other, not something we deserve. I get much more help than I give. Compared to most on this list I know very little so member or non-member thanks for your help!

If you want the designation and it is not there, just contact admin@rennlist.com and let them know. Jennifer was more than kind enough to take care of it. I am sure she didn't have to, (and I wasn't expecting it), but she took care of it on New Years Day! Really nice of her.

Thanks Jennifer.

Paul,
The PET5 is an electronic parts "microfiche" which shows blowups of the assemblies on the car w part names, numbers , and year(s) used. It covers all Porsche models. I think the version on the CD goes to around 2000 but haven't checked since I'm too worried about anything beyond '95 . Well, actually I guess you could look up other parts on later cars which might fit the 928, like 993 wheels for example, since it usually gives the offsets.
Since there was room left on the WSM CD, I put the PET5 v126 on it as well...a 'freebie' depending on how you look at it, I guess. I think the PET5 is a 'must have'...it sure makes ordering parts easier than telling Jim B....'you know that kind of oblong box just to the left of.....' And you sometimes get some clues as to how things go together/apart plus whether or not that part on ebay will fit your car. Of course, it has the usual Porsche 'organization' and you sometimes have to search around a bit to find the part/assembly you're looking for. It can be a bit 'flakey' to install and sometimes takes a couple of tries..at least that's been my experience. It also requires a screen resolution of 1280x1024..so you either need to change your screen to this when opening it or use a program that was posted on the email list (I believe) about 6 mo to a year ago that automatically changed resolution when opening PET5 and then took it back to your normal setting when you closed it. Try an archive search for this or perhaps someone can re-post..I don't remember the details.

I've been trying to get the PET6 w/o much success since someone told me it's a bit more 'robust'...any help out there? If so, pls let me know at jim928"AT" ptd.net (Wally's clever device to defeat spammer trolls..replace the "AT" w @)

Jim
