You guys are lucky over there. Cheapest Boxster for sale here in Thailand right now is a 2002 at US$60000 (yes that is 4 zeros)

Sweet car Elgy. Love that unique color combination too! Now get familiar with the 986forum.com board - for Boxsters, way better than rennlist. Also, Pedros Garage for Dwayne style DIY write ups.

My daily driver for 12+ years was a 1997 red C5 Corvette (first year of the generation) but now that it has hit 160k miles I have recently swapped it for a silver 2004 Z06 (last year of the generation) with 43k miles. 0-60 in about 4 seconds and raw visceral power. I love it even when I am doing 5 mph on I-405. I was inching along next to a Ferrari California and the owner said "Nice car!" I replied, "Your's too. Wanna trade?" No such luck.

I would never buy a C4. They were junk.

You need to experience the big highway legs of an uncapped 996 Turbo. You won't look back.

This is exactly why I don't seriously look at 996s: They'd leave me no excuse to own a 928.

That's what my supercharged 928 is for

As I explained earlier, my father drove a couple 996 Turbo's, had zero interest, bought a Boxster S. Different strokes, buying a Boxster isn't because you cannot afford or somehow don't appreciate the 911 (of any variant).

Local friend of mine has owned 4-5 Boxsters, never had a 996/997 and he's driven dozens of them, some highly modified.

I'm pretty sure I can't do a Boxster.

But most definitely I want a 996 GT3 MK1. That car is supposed to be as raw as raw can be, with zero nannies!

Yes, that's the 996 I'd like to have.

Swede,
Help me out here....are you implying that if someone has the wherewithal to buy a few reasonably priced Boxsters from the US, he could potentially flip them for a 500% profit in Thailand? Obviously there would be shipping costs. What red tape must be cleared to import from U.S. to Thailand?

I'm 6' 1" and fit just fine in a 986, even with the top up.

The wonderful thing about 928s, Boxes, and some 944s is that they are great cars that have not experienced a run-up like the 911 family. Similar experience with Lotus Esprits compared to Ferraris. There are some great values out there for people who know where to look.

I have been trolling and test driving Aston Martin DB7s for most of this year but I have been scared off because of maintenance costs. Compare those to earlier AMs. Tremendous value!

How about a V12 VW Phaeton as a daily driver? A $100k VW that shares components with a Bentley and you can get them for less than $20k.

It's all about knowing where to look for underappreciated values.
