Boostard Updates?????
Hey guys, it's been pretty quiet on the list for the last few weeks about all of your exploits. Nothing much since goridesnow posted his dragstrip times. So, who is doing what to their boosted 928 this winter???? What great ideas are being explored??? Tim M., are you doing all kinds of R&D whilst snow locked???? How's the turbo research going in Kentucky?????

Oil pan gasket , Lamp controller, Heater control valve. all with the help from rennlist. Lots of vacuum lines. This weekend i will try and find the leak at the oil sending unit. She runs great with no current problems.

Finishing all parts for 32V systems this month.
New brakes w/ cast hole rotors this week.
Looking for a tire and wheel combo to get me to 11sec 1/4 mi w/ under 10psi.
Installing on mspiegle's 86.5 this month.
Starting on Jim Bailey's car - developing 16V system.
Maybe more Roots testing on my car.
Chris, you could do a really cool setup under your hood, w/ cowl induction. You would be able to see the blower at work.

two GTS projects....one for sure
1 ~450 rwhp - all stock guts, maybe with cams
2 ~550 rwhp - all stock guts, but professionally rebuilt using stock components
Anyone have the stats on head gasket replacements on the supercharged stable...is it now becomming standard to replace gaskets? If so, at what boost level is replacement mandatory?
DAta...anyone?

Marc. T .." two GTS projects....one for sure " Interesting post , By the way how are those six stroker engines coming along ? You know the ones you posted about on 3-19-2003 " Hp is rolling......the last lonely piston arrived today.....almost have all the parts to build a batch of 6 strokers, two of them are going to be vry nasty! " .. Seems I have seen ZERO followup posts , dyno charts ......................did I miss something ?

The old very brown 1980 dynoed 194 hp torque of 225 ...... Andy wants to prototype the 1980-84 "kit" so I thought why not ?? what is the worst that can happen ...we blow it up , I can live with that . I think I know where there are some 4.5 engines.............beside with 100-150 more hosepower the "turd" could really harrass the "real Porsches" ....

Hey Andy,
Trust me, I'd love it. The ONLY thing stopping me right now is finances. I'm so ready to boost the GT that it's killing me. I'm having to live vicariously through the rest of you Boostards.
Thanks to all of you for sharing your plans, etc..... I just personally love the way that because of all of your exploits, the 928 is keeping up performance wise, with the best that the world has to offer. The styling has always been timeless, as we all know, and lots of average Joe's out there think that our 928's are "much" newer models than they really are, but it's nice to have the HP of the more modern machinery to back up those great looks. I applaud you all !!!!!!!!!!!

I can answer that;
The base sc kit for the 87 and later cars is setup to run 8psi boost and at that level there have been no issues, with multiple installations currently running. Any more boost than 8psi I strongly recommend changing the gasket to a multi layered steel one or at least a factory new one. I had the steel ones made for me at a cost of $180 for the pair. These gaskets are far superior to the stock ones and are very typical of gaskets that you will find in most production cars made today. The stock head gaskets get very corroded over time and basically any of the areas that are not clamped up begin to erode away and fall into the coolant. The coolant passages are also compromised in the head when this happens. Based on the corrosion I see on the heads in some of Tony's pic's, I'll bet the head gaskets that came out of that engine are not too pretty either. I suppose that if the gasket were deteriorated enough you could have a problem at even 8psi but so far that has not been the case, (knocking on wood). We have a little over 3000 miles at 18psi with the MLS gasket and it is running just fine, like we expected.
I basically have this same discussion with anyone that seriously inquires about buying a kit or has purchased one. I try to be as factual as I possibly can.
A little side note; We removed the plastic tanks from a 928 radiator because we were replacing them with some custom aluminum ones we made up. When we were cleaning out all the passageways, about 20% of them were blocked. When we finally got them cleared out and examined the gunk that was the culprit, guess what we found...... Yep, all the bits and pieces from the head gasket that corroded away. So, those of you with radiator/cooling issues, this might be why.
Oh, and a quick note to Chris; Sorry I haven't responded to your post yet but I really don't have anything to share right now. Sure, we are working on a lot of different things but until we actually do something, we don't really have anything that is worth talking about. We were going strong ahead with one very exciting project but we had a setback and decided to set it aside for now, too many other things to do first. I will say though, we will have at least (2) 600+ rwhp cars on the road in spring, we might even share the egt readings for those interested.
Best regards to all,

Chris,
From an 82', 4.5L owners perspective- HP readings probably similar to Jim's - we look at your 300HP as we would at Heaven's Gate.
In your defense:
There can never be to much chocolate.
There can never be to much butter on the baked potato's.
And I suppose there can NEVER be to much HP for a 928.
Jim and Senor Murphy,
Along with a lot of 4.5L owners, I wish you every bit of luck-
if needed- and nothing but success on the 16v endeavour.
Will be jostling for position in line for the SC kit.
Jim,
100 -150 HP ??? Is you crazy?
I'm praying for 60 - 80 RWH.
Even then I figure I'll be spending bucks on suspension and brake upgrades... ( could this be an evil plot by the Big 'Corporate' Three to boost earnings? )
